Well, yeah, but this isn't a criminal prosecution, it's a lawsuit.

It doesn't matter where a company, charity, or non profit is based, but solely on where there charter, their license was issued.

I seriously doubt even that will happen.
It should make them take a serious look at their leadership and find better representation. My husband left the organization over 20 years ago because they didn’t promote the issues they once did.

No. You should read the articles because your questions are about the facts of the case.

The legal right to operate as a nonprofit foundation is registered in New York State. Many right wingers fail to comprehend this.

Well if their charter is in N.Y. by all means go after them. There's way too many gun enthusiasts for the NRA to go away. They'll set up shop somewhere else if they have to.

Basically a civil suit that LaPierre and others violated the terms of their charter.

Right. And I think the NYAG has a very easy case to prove there, just based on the reporting of the NRA's finances over the last few years.

I don't think anyone will go to jail, which is a shame, but this lawsuit can prevent any of those named from sitting on any board of any non-profit ever again. And it will turn the NRA against itself and its members, which is A-OK by me.

Whatever. I don't really care one way or the other. It just looked like a publicity stunt by the N.Y. AG. Pfffft.
On to other threads for me.

If a company or organization commits a crime, they must pay for it. This is not a political issue.

Since 1871, the NRA has operated as a New York-registered 501(c)(4) not-for-profit, charitable corporation.
