Default White House: no "winning side" in the Libya complex civil war.

The White House on Tuesday condemned the presence of foreign military forces in Libya and said there is no "winning side" in the its complex civil war.

"The United States is deeply troubled by the escalating conflict in Libya.
We strongly oppose foreign military involvement, including the use of mercenaries and private military contractors, by all sides," President Donald Trump's national security advisor Robert O'Brien said in a statement.

Last month, the Pentagon released what it said was satellite photograph evidence of Russian military hardware deployed in the city of Sirte.

The city is held by rebel commander Khalifa Haftar, who is supported by Egypt, Russia and the United Arab Emirates.

we never should have bombed Libya under Obama prodded by Susan Rice and Hillary.
Killing Qaddafi was the proximate cause of this 10 year civil war .
at least we are condemning foreign interventionism now...but Libya is too far gone under foreign powers

Gaddafi’s prophecy comes true as foreign powers battle for Libya’s oil
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...for-libyas-oil
In August 2011, as Libya’s rebels and Nato jets began an assault on Tripoli, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi delivered a speech calling on his supporters to defend the country from foreign invaders.

“There is a conspiracy to control Libyan oil and to control Libyan land, to colonise Libya once again. This is impossible, impossible. We will fight until the last man and last woman to defend Libya from east to west, north to south,” he said in a message broadcast by a pro-regime television station.
Two months later, the dictator was dragged bleeding and confused from a storm drain in his hometown of Sirte, before being killed.

Nine years on, after the outbreak of a second civil war, Gaddafi’s proclamation is not far from the truth – but as the US has retreated from the role it played in his downfall, a constellation of emboldened regional powers has descended on Libya instead. As the battle moves to Sirte, gateway to the country’s oil crescent, a potential showdown over control of Libya’s oil wealth is looming.

To get a 10 year civil war, you need to put the two civil wars together. That is not completely unreasonable, but that is where the reasonableness stops.

Gaddafi died at the end of the First Libyan Civil War, so saying that his death was the cause of that civil war is like saying Hitler's death started WWII. It simply makes no sense. The cause of the war cannot be at the end.

The cause of the First Libyan Civil War was an uprising of Libyan people who wanted to be free of Gaddafi. Gaddafi was the worst terrorist still alive (after Obama had killed Bin Laden), and worse yet to his own people he was a terrible tyrant. NATO was willing to support the Libyan people in their war against Gaddafi, because Gaddafi had been a lifelong terrorist.

Obama took out the two worst terrorists in the world, and literally thousands of more minor terrorists, all with almost no American casualties.

Obama was no Bush. We certainly did not invade Libya, or try to steal their oil. Bush's plan to steal Iraq's oil came to disaster. trump's plan to ransom our allies is falling apart.

We need a strong alliance to beat China or Iran. Does anyone here think trump can put together a strong alliance?
