Default What does America represent to you?

To me, America represents apathy, fearmongering, ignorance, arrogance, generic pre-packaged plastic life, pseudo-machoism, totalitarianism, imperialism, religion (although that may be redundant with "ignorance), and generally everything that's wrong with the world today.

What does it mean to you? FREEDOM?!!?!

Well, not "everything", but a fair bit of it yes, you've summed it up pretty well. It's why I'm staying away for a while. It used to be a neat place to visit but it's well fucked up now. Never mind, after BushCheney are gone things will improve. Of course that's if you still have an economy left, which I hope you do because if you don't then the rest of us are pretty much fucked.

    What does America represent?

To me it represents blockades on Cuba and weapons for Saudi, cutting edge technology and debates on creation, enshrined civil rights and extraordinary rendition, defending freedom and funding dictators, isolation and empire building, the American Dream and grinding poverty.

Just this week you have the tenant condemning the landlord for it's human rights abuses on the island of Cuba, seemingly oblivious to the irony of the situation.

I don't really know what America represents and i don't think Americans know either.

What i do know is that when America is good it is very, very good but when it's bad it is horrid.

America stands for nothing but the fake pseudo-culture that has been forced upon us by commercialism. Why do you think Americans have such a need to identify with the culture of the country their family immigrated from? It is because there is no real culture here, and something deep down inside recognises that.

Thank you for permission to leave anytime I want-- I plan on doing exactly that some day, as I have always wanted to see the rest of the world and frankly I have pretty much grown tired of the artificiality of my own country.

However, I don't see how anything I said is representative of Obama.

    Define freedom.

Do you mean freedom as in no selling price? That DEFINITELY wouldn't be America.

Do you mean freedom as in freedom from restriction? Even more ludicrous than the first proposition.

Well, America is more free than other countries as far as 1st Amendment rights are concerned, but no place is perfect.

Obama likes other countries more than the US...hates our culture and wants it to change...the problem with that is just what change is he talking about?
I suspect Sharia Law...socialism or a host of other possibilities!

I don't hate American culture-- there is no culture to hate. Point to American culture without citing any of the American mythos that the corporate world has created.

There are lots of countries that wouldn't gas Watermark (regrettably)-- you have yet to tell me exactly what culture I am hating.
