If no one accepts slavery, then getting rid of the statues should be no big deal.
The right to assemble is a right, the rioting is a crime. The right to assemble is limited to lawful behavior, when rioting begins the gathering is unlawful.
Free speech in the form of artwork is limited by public opinion in the case of the statues. The States are realizing that the public no longer approves of these statues in public places. They are removing them. If rioters remove statues, they can be prosecuted.
