Actually, if you go by the desires of this board, there is a strong demand for some one who is in shape and fit being in high office. I think people are more concerned with the physical fitness of older male politicians than older female politicians, as male politicians are more expected to look strong, virile and full of vitality, even in their more advanced years.

Older female politicians can get away with being a little on the plump side.

Also, older men who are out of shape seem to be more regarded as being prone to heart attacks and other health problems.

I actually think it's the opposite. For me personally I exercise six days a week so I'm all about being in top shape. But men can argue I've got money, I eat well and therefore women still come to me so it's ok if I have a gut. There's always pressure on women to look good. Considering we've never had a woman President or VP there's no real precedent of course but I don't think generously proportioned women politicians get a break when most regular women wouldn't.

That's mostly true, but I kind of doubt that Pence's religious hypocrisy bothered him all that much.

I think you're looking at it from the same perspective that "typical guys" look at cheerleaders or models or Hooters waitresses.

I don't think politicians are judged according to the same rubric as members of the general population, especially at the highest levels.

Male Presidents are more expected to look youthful and vigorous, while looking young and shapely would be seen as more of a negative for a female because she would be seen as being less "serious".
