1 million new cases dded in just 15 days


Another day, another mind-boggling milestone: 4 million people in the U.S. have tested positive for the coronavirus. The U.S. hit the 3 million mark just 15 days ago.

That's according to a tracker from Johns Hopkins University.

More than 143,700 people have died from the virus in the U.S. — nearly twice as many as Brazil, the country with the second-highest number of fatalities.

While confirmed cases have surpassed 4 million, federal health officials have said the actual number is likely many times higher. "Our best estimate right now is that for every case that was reported, there actually were 10 other infections," Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said last month.

No part of the country has been untouched by the virus. The New York City metro area was the first epicenter in the U.S., and the city became a ghost town amid skyrocketing case numbers. It is now gradually reopening.

New hot spots emerged in June and July: California, Texas and Florida now have large numbers of cases, and Arizona and Louisiana have especially significant case numbers compared with the size of their populations.


California now has more than 425,000 confirmed cases. The state had two days in a row this week with more than 12,000 new cases.

Florida set a grim new mark of its own on Thursday: 173 deaths in one day, along with more than 10,000 new cases. Florida is now behind only California and New York in total cases. Miami-Dade County is the state's epicenter, with a positivity rate near 20%.

They didn't close their doors to the US fast enough. They will be hammered for that. I guess this is your attempt to say 'hey, it's happening everywhere'. There may be rises in some of the areas that had tamped things down, but they are a drop in the bucket compared to what the US is seeing. We are by far the largest contributor to that record number of cases.

Here is the list of countries reporting the largest number of new cases:

Those are the ONLY countries in the world that reported more than 10,000 cases yesterday. The remaining countries on the list had fewer cases in the entire country than Florida had.

The first European country to appear on the list is Spain, at number 14 with 2,100 cases (less than a quarter of what Florida reported alone, and less than five states in the US). The NEXT European country to appear (and they are no longer part of the EU) is the UK at number 30, with 686 cases. Canada, a country with about 10% of the US population, had less than 700 cases yesterday. We had 22 STATES that had more cases than their entire country. And I'm pretty sure these countries have all managed to control the virus without complete economic collapse. Why? Because those countries don't have a knuckle dragging moron as President, and they don't have 40% of the country too fucking stupid to put on a mask.

Europe has successfully tamped down the virus. Canada has successful tamped down the virus. We have not. We are not only by far the worst industrialized country at handling this, but we are worse than many third world countries.
