The White House is seeking to discredit Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country's leading infectious disease expert, as President Donald Trump works to marginalize him and his dire warnings about the shortcomings of the U.S. coronavirus response.

In a remarkable broadside by the Trump administration against one of its own, a White House official said Sunday that "several White House officials are concerned about the number of times Dr. Fauci has been wrong on things." The official gave NBC News a list of nearly a dozen past comments by Fauci that the official said had ultimately proven erroneous.

Among them: Fauci's comments in January that the coronavirus was "not a major threat" and his guidance in March that "people should not be walking around with masks."

It was a move more characteristic of a political campaign furtively disseminating opposition research about an opponent than of a White House struggling to contain a pandemic that has killed more than 135,000 people, according to an NBC News tally.

Of course -- did we expect anything different? Fauci is a strong, tough, intelligent guy. He's not backing down. Good for him.

    Zero surprise here.

The problem with Fauci is he's far too honest to be working for DT.

And the ironic thing is how dumb that approach is.

If they really want the pandemic to be a non-issue for the election, they should be doing everything logical and possible to keep it from spreading.

But instead, and here's the really stupid thing, the more they ignore it and pretend it 'will just go away,' the more they actually spread it and make it worse, and thus, more of an election issue by exemplifying how tragically poor the response has been.

    It is remarkable mass stupidity.

Great observation. This is also true of the screeching by the Reichwingers to reopen schools. If they want them open, then they'd best be doing everything humanly possible to curb the soaring spread of the virus -- voluntarily. They'd be masking up, avoiding unnecessary trips to stores/beaches/parks/churches/bars/restaurants and other crowded venues. They would be encouraging others to do the same, instead of boasting on social media how "I ain't a sheep, I ain't gonna wear no damn mask." They're their own worst enemies. And they're ours as well.

This guy found out the hard way.

It will only work on the 38%.

According to an article that I read about him, he posted a day or so before his death that he really regretted not following protocols. I'm sure his family is crushed. Despite being abysmally stupid, he apparently was a nice guy who helped other veterans with various post-service issues.

Trump firing Fauci would give him more access. He will not have to wait permission from Trump to talk and Trump cannot stifle his data. It would backfire. But Trump is petty and wants to damage people who get out of line. Fauci has not been all over the news. But Trump will put him there.
