Default Goya Foods boycott takes off after its CEO praises Trump

The hashtag #Goyaway was trending on social media Friday after Robert Unanue, CEO of Goya Foods, appeared in the White House Rose Garden Thursday afternoon and praised President Donald Trump.

    https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/10/busin...ump/index.html

Goya Foods is the largest, Hispanic-owned food company in the United States!

So lets try and put a lot of people out of work because the CEO likes Trump

I was just about to start a thread on this.

This kind of boycott is stupid, and the worst kind. Same thing the right did to the Dixie Chicks.

Boycotts can have limited effectiveness to change a specific behavior - but we have to stop boycotting just because we disagree w/ someone politically. It's the marketplace of ideas - if you don't like someone's idea or opinion, counter it w/ a better one. Don't just try to shut them up.

Do you know how many people it takes to put out records and put bands on the road?

Same thing, exactly. The right didn't like their opinion, so they tried to shut them up.

I don’t buy Goya, never have, there are cheaper alternatives that are just as good.

I disagree, it is my prerogative to spend my money on products who support my principles. I try to buy American made when possible.

I respect that, but that's different. Of course you can make whatever individual choice you want based on your own feelings. Same with those who decided on their own to stop buying the Chicks.

It's organized boycotts that I find lazy & ham-handed. Offer up better ideas - I don't like the idea of just shutting people up because we don't agree w/ them.

"Goya has always strived to be a company of passionate people that care about making a difference in the community. In 2018, Goya was ranked #2 as a leading U.S. food brand for its social influence and community support, according to TotalSocial rankings. Through Goya Gives, Goya supports nearly 300 charitable endeavors, programs, scholarships, and events, and donates millions of pounds of food to local food banks and shelters, especially during times of natural disasters such as Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, Superstorm Sandy, and Hurricanes Harvey and Irene. In 2017-2018, the company launched the ‘Can Do’ campaign to benefit Feeding America and donated over 1.5 million pounds of food to families in need across the country. In 2011, President Barack Obama honored Goya for its continued success and commitment to the Hispanic community, the only company to ever be honored by the President. In 2012, Goya collaborated with First Lady Michelle Obama and the USDA to launch the MyPlate/ MiPlato campaign. Goya recognizes the important role businesses play in leading the way for environmental change, and is the largest user of solar energy among Hispanic owned food and beverage companies, ranking as one of the top corporate solar users in the U.S. food and beverage industry."

My Latina esposa buys Goya products often.

    A great company.

In most products you have options. There is nothing wrong with picking ones that you think are more politically responsible. I don't go to Walmart, because I have other choices.

I like this. Common sense. Rational.

AOC has an adobo recipe for you I hear-she's such a piece of work....Don't get the "bread" recipes here.....
I'll buy more Goya than usual now, and encourage others to do the same...why? They're a great company....and very "politically responsible", if that is important to you

Did the products "support your principles" when the company was honored by Obama? Just curious
