Just so we're clear; I fully support all candidates to national office being compelled to release their tax and medical records to a classified bipartisan commission with restrictions so tight that if anyone released private information, they'd go to jail, not just be fined. As we found out with Hillary and every other politician, those rules don't exist.

This is just more partisan political pussyfooting trying to justify digging up dirt on opponents. IF (or when) Biden is elected, how many RWers and LWers on this forum will strain their backs flip-flopping on the issue?
Under a 1924 federal tax law, § 6103 of title 26 of the United States Code, Congress may request copies of anyone's tax returns. The treasury secretary is legally obliged to provide the tax returns, and there is no apparent legal mechanism to deny Congress's request.

LOL. I agree Barr is a great disappointment. I wonder what kind of payday Trump promised him?

Still, the US has had more corrupt days. Any links to "most corrupt AGs in American History"?

Just as long as Congress get the tax returns they requested from DJT, there is no problem. You are the one, my dear, that seems to have a problem with our laws.

Insult away, dude. It doesn't change the facts no matter how many insults or names you sling my way.

The OP asked a question, I gave my opinion. Let's see what SCOTUS does....and, yes, I noticed you didn't answer the questions in the OP.

The Grant administration makes a lot of lists. TBH, the full extent of Trump's corruption won't be known until he's out of office.

Not to release them to the public. If the law is on the side of Congress, why is SCOTUS involved?

Why did you dodge the question about medical records?

SCOTUS is involved because this administration wont allow the IRS to do their job.
What was the question about medical records?

    Meh. Let SCOTUS decide.

You quoted me several times. If you want to play word games, leave me out of it.

Again, I support requiring National elected leaders having to divulge their medical and tax records, not just the Republican ones when it Democrats are pissed.

Here's the bottom line: This is all political. If the IRS or the FBI want to see Trump's taxes, the IRS has already done so. The FBI needs a warrant, but that's not too big a deal given national security. The problem for the Democrats is that all of that information is covered by privacy laws and cannot be publicly released without Trump's permission just like Hillary's medical records. The only reason to compel release of medical and tax records is to throw dirt on the person. It's not about law, it's not about national security since those are already covered.

And this is my problem with that: 15 minutes after they get their paws on it, some jackass is gonna step up and say "we can't disclose the contents of these documents, but suffice to say this is much more disturbing than we initially imagined" That's all they got to do, then there's the inevitable leaks. I may be wrong, but I don't think there's any legal basis for this

Agreed. This is all just politics, not fact-finding or truth-hunting.

If the Democrats were serious about this, they'd have passed laws when it was a Democrat President and a Democrat Congress. They didn't. Why? Because they like the laws just the way they are.

I'm sure you were just joking with that question, DU, right?

Do you have any idea of just how many cases have been before the SCOTUS where "the law was on the side of Congress?"

One of the purposes of the SCOTUS...is to determine whether the law is on one side or the other. That is its purpose.
