Tammy Duckworth was born in Bangkok, Thailand, the daughter of Lamai Sompornpairin and Franklin Duckworth. Her father, who died in 2005,[5] was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps[6][7] who traced his family's American roots to the American Revolutionary War.[8] Her mother is Thai Chinese[9] whose hometown was Chiang Mai.[10] Because of her father's work with the United Nations and international companies in refugee, housing, and development programs,[11] the family moved around Southeast Asia. Duckworth became fluent in Thai and Indonesian, in addition to English.[12]

Her father was unemployed for a time, and the family relied on public assistance.[11] She graduated with honors from McKinley High School in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1985, having skipped the ninth grade. She graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and later received a Master of Arts in international affairs from George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs.[15] She completed a PhD in Human Services at Capella University in March 2015.[16]

McCain was born in Panama. Whether they are natural born citizens is an open question. It is terrible to think that American servicemen (and women) serving abroad under orders of the US Government could have their children excluded from being President, but it might be technically so.

The Founding Fathers could never have imagined that our armed forces would serve abroad for long enough to have their wives join them, and to have children.

Duckworth is not on "all sorts of drugs". Dole had some serious disabilities too. And trump claimed he was too disabled to even serve. Duckworth has done one thing that neither of them has done, nor has any Senator before her done... She gave birth. Her disability was not bad enough to keep her from giving birth.

Her father was an American citizen, which means she was born with American citizenship, even though she was born in Thailand. Ted Cruz was born in Canada, but he was able to run for president because his parents were American citizens.

Cruz's parents were American citizens at the time of his birth, which means he automatically got American citizenship when he was born. It's a weird system, but there it is.
For Duckworth, only one of her parents was an American citizen by the time of her birth, but I'm pretty sure it still counts.
