Actually, I think we never had to close. If we had gone full bore on early testing and contact tracing we could have kept it far more under control. We could have taken smart coordinated measures to far more effect than this haphazard BS we ended up with.

This is how polarization hurts us.

Different sides taking different approaches when we needed a singular unified approach.

But of course, that would have taken qualified leadership, so no wonder we're in deep do-do.

This never had to be political.

We humans are all on the same side in this one.

Summa these people are way to hung up on we/they theory.

They've forgotten how much we have in common.
If they would have made a nationwide commitment to testing and contract tracing, like other nations that no longer have a Covid problem... we would never have had to shut down. Instead they went with the throw shit at the wall approach and this is where we are. Once they decided to shut down, they should have done it for longer, like NY and the EU did, now look they no longer have an issue and their economy is growing.

And even if it came to the need to shut down it could have been done in a planned way. There was plenty of time to work out the details of preserving jobs, getting emergency pay for workers, letting them stay on their insurance, etc. But of course, that made way too much sense, acknowledges that government is a central organization that can work for us. No way they could embrace that concept. They have to maintain that government is a monster out to get us instead of something we created for the common good.

It's not even that so much as we didn't open (in most places) according to CDC guidelines.

Everyone treated the shutdown like it was the cure. It was just the 1st step. If we had re-opened responsibly, in stages, and with emphasis on distancing, wearing masks & testing - we would not be in this situation.

This was Trump's failure, and his failure alone.

Admit they should stay closed and shelter in place? They won't even wear masks or socially distance to reduce spread while having their lakefront redneck spawning rituals.
Why are the peasants of China so much more intelligent than ours?
