The concern is for our own country, our own people. While I agree there is exaggeration from both sides, the fact remains there are problems in our nation when innocent people are being killed by our own government forces. That should never, ever happen.

Okay, so how is this true except for criminal actions that are already crimes and prosecuted for the US?

Oh innocent women and children suffering or being killed are imaginary? Gay people being imprisoned or killed is imaginary?

Those of us who are old enough were "woke" in the 1960s during the Civil Rights movement. A common mistake of the young is to assume they invented everything and it's never been done before. Yes, even us Boomers in the '60s.

There's still discrimination and harassment against LGBT people, for example.

It didn't take THAT long, but the term has been hijacked by the usual reactionaries and status quoers who would prefer that America somehow find its way back to the 1950's and not have to come to terms with centuries of inequality and injustice.

It's a mock now - a slur. "Hey, ya little wokies, nyah, nyah, nyah."

Are there some who overused the term, or made it a "better than thou" boast? Of course. But all it means is being aware. Acknowledging the issues that are right in front of our face.

It's something we all should aspire toward. When people mock the term, all I really hear is that they'd prefer to remain in the dark.

This board is full of baby boomers and if you’re a baby boomer and only hang out with fellow baby boomers and don’t follow social media it's more understandable not having heard the term woke or having your friends use it.

The New York Times and NPR have used the term plenty. Hell LeBron James, one of the most famous people on the planet and a big activist, used the term today in his tweet. If you’ve never heard someone use the term woke you are not paying attention.
