Looks like a 747 to me. He'll probably land at Ellsworth AFB, which is due north of the Rapid City airport....and sometimes mistaken for Rapid City by disoriented pilots.

The USAF still uses KC-135s (Boeing 707) for airborne refuel. It also has four engines, but a slender fuselage. Note huge tail too.

The sound kept dropping out. I didn't see but a glimpse, but if it was a 747 (low wing, four engines) it probably was. I've flown into Rapid City lots of times; only medium and small airliners go there. Fedex flys a bigger jet in there but not a 747.
