And even though the stands are frequently outside, there is insufficient spacing between fans. And even if they made new rules to provide for less attendance, all those people will be consuming beverages and need to go to the bathroom. Public bathrooms are a high-risk area for transmission.
Even if all those problems are solved, what if there is an emergency and the whole stadium needs to be cleared pronto? That is going to create a huge packed mass of people headed for the exits all at once. Again, this would present a high risk of transmission. Shoot, just try to get everybody in there and out of there with no emergency and keep people 6' apart. Even that seems rather unlikely.
Maybe they could play with an extremely limited audience, or no audience. But that still doesn't solve the issue with the players getting up close and personal. Ya can't tackle somebody and stay 6' apart. Receivers and defenders can't run down the field playing patty cake while waiting for the throw and stay 6' apart. What about the inevitable goal line pile up for 3rd down and goal?
If the players and their families don't want to live in a bubble, and get tested regularly, football is not going to be safe. And it's a real loss. I had high hopes for the XFL, too. I was enjoying it.
No one ever asked us healthcare workers to live in a bubble lol.
If they have protests they can use stadiums at 50% capacity. Those protesters weren’t all pissing in the streets. As mentioned, the COVID CFR is so low for the 20-30’s it’s negligible. If healthcare workers can risk spreading to their families millionaire athletes can do the same.
Or they can self isolate if they choose.
