It's actually what is now almost universally being recommended by the medical, healthcare & scientific communities.

And the shaming is on the other side - calling others "scaredy cats" for wearing them, and saying they're virtue signaling, when they're just trying to prevent spread & do what they can to end this thing.

The anti-mask crowd is one of the strangest phenomena I've seen in my life, given the circumstances.

ILA posted a video of an anti-masker. She used the same logic and verbiage as an anti-vaxxer. She was that, as well.

This is a false dilemma. You can take many other precautions besides wearing a mask and reduce or even eliminate your risk of contagion. Such things include minimizing trips, social distancing, practicing good hygiene, etc. Therefore, making a blanket statement that if you don't wear a mask you are at fault for everything is simply wrong.

There should be a kitchen sink approach to this crisis at this point. Countries that have had high or near 100% compliance on masks are the ones that are doing well right now.

The spread of the virus is slowed by wearing a mask in public, especially in crowded indoor spaces. If you don't do it, you are slowing the economic recovery. And, if masks were the only thing being done to counter this contagion, would they alone be effective in stopping it? That is, no social distancing. No minimizing your exposure. No particular extra sanitary practices. No "sneeze guards" that are now prevalent at many businesses. Would masks alone be effective? I doubt that. It is one thing among many, and possibly not even the most effective means to prevent spread.

For all those who are resistant to wearing a mask in public, you have lost your right to complain about the economy. You are dragging it down, intentionally and with purpose.
