Perhaps more than any others, it is the Iraqis who long for the return of their Jewish brethren, and Iraqi Jews who long for their former homeland. In recent years, a number of Facebook accounts have opened in Israel to renew the connection between Iraqi Jews and the Arabs beside whom their ancestors lived in harmony for over a thousand years prior to the advent of Islam.

Arabs are definitely a semitic people, because they speak a semitic language. It is as semitic as Hebrew.

Given the vast area that Arabs cover, I would assume their genetics is varied. Different people with different ancestry all started using a semitic language as first a linga franca, and then as a native language.

Many Jews were Arabs. They spoke as their native language Arabic. Almost all these Jews were thrown out of Arabic countries, and now speak Hebrew as their native language. Well, almost all of the Jews that were identifiable as Jews.

Many Jews converted, or intermixed. Jews that were left in Judea may have first converted to Christianity and then to Islam, and might be part of what we call the Palestinians today.

There are a lot of assumptions and suppositions here, but it makes logical sense.

It was a brutal divide on both sides. 2,600 year old communities have been completely destroyed. For the most part the people survived, but moved to Israel, so the communities ceased to exist.

Not really my families history, I think we are all Ashkenazi/European Jews, but still a cultural loss. My families cultural loss is the loss of Yiddish.
