Good point. But then isn't *everything* a patriotism test these days?

Yes. And RWs think they're the ones permitted to set the standard and hold everybody to it.

I agree with you 100%. IIRC the patriotic standard during the Obama years was the flag pin. If he didn't wear one it was proof he was a Kenyan subversive who hated America. This superficial stuff just makes me crazy, patriotism is so much more than that.

It's nothing more than a tradition that began at the1918 World Series. It is not a test of your patriotism. But one should show respect for the nation that has bestowed so many freedoms on you.
But if one wishes to show disrespect for the nation they should be prepared for the consequences.

Patriotism is having the guts to stand up and say "This is wrong" when our country or its leaders are going off the tracks, to most of us. To the Reichwing, though, it's high treason to speak out against something the country or leaders are doing -- unless of course the leaders happen to come with a (D) after their names.

I think you missed the point. Christiefan and I were agreeing that most on the RW have made the singing of the Anthem into a litmus test of patriotism, rather than what you said. You all call Kaepernick a traitor and scumbag because he knelt instead of joining in, didn't you? That's the whole point -- you all have made the Anthem into a test, and he failed.

Exactly. To most of us, standing up and protesting like Kaep did is civil disobedience, but to Rs it's treason.
