The percentage of Americans who view President Donald Trump favorably has only slightly declined since his mid-March all-time highs heading into the coronavirus lockdown, but he has been hit considerably among one key demographic: white evangelical Christians--according to polling data released Thursday by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI).

Forty-three percent of Americans surveyed over the past few weeks hold mostly or very favorable views of Trump--down about six percent from the 49 percent high he received in mid-March, which was his best rating at any point since 2015.

And while most of the president's numbers have remained more or less steady since the U.S. outbreak of COVID-19, Trump has seen a sharp drop in support from counties where coronavirus cases are higher than the national average. Among white Christians, Trump saw a significant double-digit drop in support between March and April.

PRRI's study also found that people of all demographics in counties that were hit the hardest by COVID-19 are 10 percent less likely to have a favorable view of Trump. White Christians in counties that have recorded higher than average coronavirus cases are 13 percent less likely to rate Trump favorably than their counterparts in overwhelmingly rural counties which saw fewer effects.

Behind Trump’s demand to reopen churches: Slipping poll numbers and alarm inside his campaign

A sudden shift in support for Donald Trump among religious conservatives is triggering alarm bells inside his reelection campaign, where top aides have long banked on expanding the president’s evangelical base as a key part of their strategy for victory this November.

The anxiety over Trump’s standing with the Christian right surfaced after a pair of surveys by reputable outfits earlier this month found waning confidence in the administration’s coronavirus response among key religious groups, with a staggering decline in the president’s favorability among white evangelicals and white Catholics. Both are crucial constituencies that supported Trump by wide margins in 2016 and could sink his reelection prospects if their turnout shrinks this fall.

Twitter is in a catch 22, and if they did that there would be severe criticism from Trump supporters and if they don't they would lose credibility, so they compromised. At any rate, the truth means nothing to the Trump supporters, so even if the lies were deleted, the Trump supporters will still live in their own bubble of reality.

On Tuesday, Twitter highlighted two of Trump's tweets that falsely claimed mail-in ballots would lead to widespread voter fraud, appending a message the company has introduced to combat misinformation and disputed or unverified claims.

"Get the facts about mail-in ballots," read the message beneath each tweet. It linked to a curated fact-check page the platform had created filled with further links and summaries of news articles debunking the assertion. "

"Shortly after the labels were applied, Trump took to Twitter to claim the company "is interfering in the 2020 Presidential Election" and "stifling FREE SPEECH." He added that he "will not allow it to happen!""

    (What, by tweeting it?)

"Twitter's actions quickly led to criticism from some of its users, however, who said the measures did not go far enough. Some faulted Twitter for not explicitly saying in the label that Trump's tweets contained false information; other users said the company should have used a larger font size.

The instant feedback highlights how Twitter, which has long grappled with how to address Trump's tweets, may now find itself under even greater pressure than before to act in a consistent and transparent manner. "

Ex-Nevada AG describes ballots 'piled up in apartments and trash cans and in hallways' due to mail-in voting

"This is the game," said Laxalt, outside counsel for the nonprofit Americans for Public Trust. "It's about winning elections and gaining power and here in my swing state ... you are seeing videos of thousands of ballots that are piled up in apartments and trash cans and in hallways. And this is all because we are doing our first mail-in ballot election in the history of our state all under the cloak of the pandemic."

The former state AG went on to claim that Nevada, which is one of several states that have chosen to expand mail-in voting during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been sending absentee ballots to inactive voters.

"Inactive voters, 200,000 of them were mailed ballots all across the greater Las Vegas area," he said, "and we have no way to know if these are going to lead to massive voter fraud, and they continue to sue to get rid of signature verifications and to enact the California-style ballot harvesting right here in Nevada."
Laxalt urged residents to "put pressure" on the Nevada secretary of state's office as well as local registrars to "stop this practice."

"The interesting thing about this," he noted, "is that the Democrat registrar in Clark County [where Las Vegas is located] said 'I don't want to mail inactive voters' ... What happened? His county commission, almost all Democrats, said, 'You are going to mail inactive voters.' ... There's a postal worker in Las Vegas who was quoted as saying, 'I'm seeing ballots everywhere. They're not secure. What is going to happen with all these ballots?'"

    Hello ziggy,

Amid widespread vote-by-mail fraud allegations in the Paterson city council election, one race was apparently decided by just 8 votes.

Incumbent Shahin Khalique defeated Mohammed Akhtaruzzaman — 1,729 votes to 1,721. And long-time council member William McKoy lost by 245 votes to challenger Alex Mendez.

A Passaic County spokesman said 16,747 vote-by-mail ballots were received, but the county's official results page shows 13,557 votes were counted — a difference of 3,190 votes. Those thousands of ballots not counted would represent nearly one in five of all votes cast, or 19 percent.

The Board of Elections previously announced about 800 votes would be set aside and not counted amid charges they were found improperly bundled in mailboxes in Paterson as well as at a drop box in nearby Haledon.

The spokesman later told the Paterson Press that the additional 2,390 disqualifications were due to the election board comparing signatures on the ballots to those previously on file for voters, and the new ones not matching up. The spokesman also would not explain the breakdown of what ward those ballots were from, or which candidates were voted for in those disqualified ballots.

According to the Paterson Press, four wards had more votes go uncounted than the winner's margin of victory — meaning the uncounted ballots possibly could have tipped the election in favor of one of the candidates.

The election results could be challenged in court once the election is certified. There are ongoing accusations of ballot stuffing, vote stealing and fraud casting a dark cloud over the election.

“There is a genuine absentee ballot fraud scandal going on in Paterson,” said election law expert and University of California-Irvine School of Law professor Rick Hasen. While ballot fraud is rare, Hasen wrote in his blog, "When someone tries an absentee ballot scheme like this clumsy attempt in Paterson, it is hard to hide. People get caught.” The Paterson election was vote-by-mail only due to the coronavirus crisis.

Compare the FEW problems with mail-in voting to the number of good clean verified mail-in votes and you come up with an extremely tiny fraction.

    Finally!

So good to see those who hold 'the good book' close begin to see the conman for what he is - a FAKE!

He can't afford to lose any of the groups which backed him previously. Any one group, be it the deplorables, the evangelicals, or the greedy rich power junkies, or their wannabes, ANY of them. He needs them all to just squeak by like he did in 2016.

I hate to see this virus ripping through our country. It is terrible, and it has been made far worse by his bad leadership.

So it is only fitting that this is what is causing his downfall - something of his own doing.

And if he gets churches opened up, and they begin to see outbreaks and deaths in clusters of COVID, then they will be moving away from supporting HIM.

It is just so ironic and sad the way this is all going down, the way HE is going down.

    The DT downfall trifecta:

    1. He loses some of his popular support.

    2. He loses the 2020 election.

    3. He gets arrested, prosecuted, and convicted of fraud and tax evasion, and is sentenced to prison, with no tweeting allowed.

Let's just put it out there and visualize.

There is still a lot of unanswered questions about this fraud, this could very well be a plot by Trumpian GOP to discredit vote by mail, because low voter turn out has always favored the GOP.

That's a really good point. Operation Fake News has done an excellent job of destroying the credibility of reputable news sources in favor of the insanely partisan shit-news like Fox, Breitbart, Infowars, Gateway Pundit, etc.
