US troop drawdown started in 2014, and ended in 2016, before trump came to office. You are the revisionist one when you deny that. There are now only 8,400 troops, almost none of them combat ground forces. Obama pulled out nearly all the troops from both Iraq and Afghanistan.

The few remaining combat ground forces are mostly special forces that we really should not withdrawal. They are used to get some very evil people. The air combat forces, and the training troops have very low casualty levels, and are important for fighting our enemies.

According to the statistics you posted, Bush had 155 casualties in his last year in Afghanistan, but Obama had 13. That is a massive drawdown in casualties, for Obama.

It is interesting how the New York Times covers US imperialism. We have an extremist president of the United States. But, the Taliban are the problem...for US imperialism.
    Very astute observation Jackson....

Had Obama pulled out they would have attacked him incessantly but since trump WILL SURRENDER TO THE TALIBAND ALL IS GOOD............ Just another victory for jihad.

Maybe it was part of the secret deal trump made w/ the devils in the house of saud?? No wonder no one knows the dirty details...

"There is no question former President Trump bears moral responsibility. His supporters stormed the Capitol because of the unhinged falsehoods he shouted into the world’s largest megaphone," McConnell wrote. "His behavior during and after the chaos was also unconscionable, from attacking Vice President Mike Pence during the riot to praising the criminals after it ended."

I don't think it can be done, but we have to try because of all the US soldiers that died there.
But no matter what we need to get out
Sadly it does have all the overtones of Obama pulling out of Iraq. What's to stop AQ and/or ISIS reforming there?

to the bolded- lies . again.
    ~~

Obama stood around while ISIS rolled across the Iraqi desert without so much as a strafing run.
the Iraqi regulars tore off their uniforms and abandoned their weapons while Obama called them "JV"

nothing really. the Taliban are the strongest players and they are fanatics, so I fully expect ISIS/AQ/whatever to re-form based on their neglect.

But we've been there like 18 years? at some point we have to leave Afghan to the Afghanis.

That doesn't mean we can't go after AQ types with drones/bombs/etc

Why do you believe the US has the right to occupy Afghanistan?

Yep......... We could stay 100 years & it will be the same...... When we are gone, like the brits & russians, nothing will remain of our squandered lives & treasure there except rusting metal..........

India, Persia & China will reap whatever bennies are left to exploit...........
