In a shop or store I wear a mask, at a beach or park I don’t. I do it because the data says if I’m infected and in a confined place with other people, the mask makes it less likely for me to infect others

    No.

None of the typical masks will have any effect on virus transmission, and I believe we have all already been exposed to it by now, if you are anywhere near an urban or suburban area

Yes, I wear one in public places. 1) It helps others to feel safer, 2) it sets a good example, 3) it lets the virus-deniers know that we're not afraid and aren't hiding in our houses as they believe.

I look at people in the stores not wearing one as inconsiderate and selfish.

While it's no guarantee or 100% safeguard, it certainly reduces the transmission if everyone is wearing one.

And I'm surely not a virtue signaler.

I totally disagree. If the masks were not working the entire world would not be wearing them. You look at it as protection from only but that is on half the equation. You wear a mask to pervent passing the virus along. Look at Life is Golden's chart it explains the reasons.

I wear one to bed even......... lol

I wear one @ work etc except if I go for a walk/bike ride or hike...

If I come across ppl I simply avoid them, cross the street etc..

I started doing it before it was required to help alleviate fears for ppl that are vulnerable or just scared...

As you noted, we could be asymptomatic..

We are just opening up here so it will be interesting to see if ppl continue to wear a mask & take the precautions..

In a building or headed into or out of it yes. Outdoors only if there are people around (which they usually are not for me).

I have yet to wear a mask, because the only times I have been out in months I have been outside, where the risk of transmission appears to be about zero.

I did however buy 100 high quality disposable masks during the last week of Jan, after I had figured out some things about this Bug...about what was coming...which The Wife has used some of....though she also makes her own.

Do face masks really reduce coronavirus spread? Experts have mixed answers.

If you believe that loose-fitting fabric has an effect on airborne viruses, that's fine with me.

Most in my area are wearing a mask. What really bothers me is to see elderly people unmasked. Don't they realize they are in the danger group?

I'm not going to argue with you. If you choose to play Russian Roulette with the virus ok its your body. But at the same time it is a undisputed fact that wearing a mask when operating on people prevents infections thus simple logic dictates that wearing a mask should keep one from contaminating the surounding area.
Personally I would hate to think I contributed to someones illness or death because I was too lazy or cheap to get and wear a mask.
