"OBAMAGATE" MAKES "WATERGATE" SMELL POSITIVELY SWEET IN COMPARISON

I think whoever coined the term "OBAMAGATE", very obviously intended it to evoke the "WATERGATE" scandal that brought down former Republican President Richard Nixon in 1974. But OBAMAGATE was a very different ball of wax to WATERGATE in a number of ways. Here are some conspicuous and important differences between these two notorious episodes in American politics...



(1) PERSONAL INVOLVEMENT OF THE PRESIDENT



With Nixon, it is now almost certain that he did not know of, or authorise, the the botched burglary of the DNC Headquarters in the Watergate Hotel Complex in 1972. The attempt to break into the DNC Headquarters in the Watergate complex was carried out by five 3rd-rate villains nicknamed the "Plumbers" (their task being to stop "leaks") Nixon knew the "Plumbers" but had no knowledge of their foiled plot to break in to the DNC offices at the Watergate Complex. The "Plumbers" were apprehended by police after a security guard working in the complex that night found evidence that there had been a break - in to the building and raised the alarm. The five were subsequently interviewed by the FBI and $2,300 in cash that one of the "Plumbers" was carrying when he was arrested was traced back to the White House (it's a long story so I'll spare you the details). The important point to note is that the "Plumbers" bungled burglary was what triggered the WATERGATE scandal. Nixon came to grief because he tried to cover up the "Plumber's Watergate operation, and was eventually caught lying in a tape-recorded conversation he had in his office at the White House with a Republican Party associate. This particular audio tape known as the "smoking gun" was given to the Supreme Court of the US, and, again, to cut a long story short, Nixon would certainly have been impeached. He chose instead to resign his office and did so in August of 1974.



With Obama, the full details of his personal involvement in the multiplex labyrinths of criminal activity that are collectively called "OBAMAGATE" remain to be revealed. However, thus far two very significant documents have come to light. First, there is a text message from former FBI lawyer, Lisa Page to Peter Strzok, a former FBI Chief of Counterespionage that was sent in 2016 when they were both working on an FBI investigation code named "Crossfire Hurricane." Strzok and Page were also involved in an extramarital romantic affair at the time. ( NB: any fans of British pop music might be interested to know that the code name is taken from the first line of the Rolling Stone's song "Jumpin' Jack Flash" - "I was born in a crossfire hurricane", which, in turn, refers to fact that band member Keith Richards was born in London during a German Luftwaffe bombing raid on the city; one of many such raids on London by the Nazis that are collectively remembered as "The Blitz.")



"Crossfire Hurricane" was an FBI counterintelligence operation that was undertaken in 2016 and 2017 into links between Trump associates and Russian officials and "whether individuals associated with the "Donald J. Trump for President Campaign" were coordinating, wittingly in the 2 or unwittingly, with the Russian government's efforts to interfere in the 2016 Presidential election,The text (email) message I referred to above was sent by Lisa Page to Strzok on the 2nd September, 2016, in it she explains why she need to prepare talking points about the "Crossfire Hurricane" investigation, saying: "POTUS (then President Obama) wants to know everything we're doing." This is strong evidence that Obama knew of the political spying by his people WHILE it was occurring.




The second significant document is the famous email that Susan Rice, former National Security Adviser in the Obama administration, SENT TO HERSELF on January 20th, 2017, even as Trump was delivering his Inaugural Address. The email describes an equally famous January 5th, 2017, Oval Office meeting attended by: President Obama; VP Joe Biden; Attorney General Sally Yates; James Comey (then Director of the FBI) and Rice and contains this little gem:



"From a national security perspective, however, President Obama said he wants to be sure that, as we engage with the incoming team, we are mindful to ascertain if there is any reason that we cannot share information fully as it relates to Russia."



Like many others, I interpret this passage as Rice trying to concoct the best euphemism she could for the fact that Obama had given a direct instruction to hide as much as possible about the political spying from the incoming President and his people using the "Russia" line as the excuse and cover story. But, of course, the whole idea that any matters of national interest can or should be witheld from the President - who personally embodies the national security function in the constitutional framework - IS COMPLETELY PREPOSTEROUS.



(2) THE SCOPE OF OBAMAGATE vs THE SCOPE OF WATERGATE



Watergate involved the wiretapping of a total of two land line telephones and an intent to photocopy some physical evidence (which it seems was never accomplished) - that's it.



Obama and his Deep State intelligence mandarins and their minions systematically outdid Richard Nixon's humble collection of "Plumbers", spooks and spies. Obama appointees and loyalists surveilled American citizens, doctored or destroyed evidence, and monitored their communications. They deceived FISA courts to justify such illegal surveillance, set perjury ambushes to snare perceived political opponents, and used informants to spy on political enemies. They leaked classified information to damaged opponents, paid foreign nationals during a political campaign to gather dirt on a Presidential candidate , and repeatedly either flat out lied under oath to Congress or on hundreds of occasions claimed they "could not remember" when asked a factual question.



To date we have only just begun to learn the of the magnitude and extent of illegal activity involved in "OBAMAGATE", and all indications are that it was a massive and pervasive system of OUTRAGEOUS CRIMINALITY.To gain some idea, let's put aside the fraudulent Page FISA warrants, and start by considering the three dozen plus unmasking requests as to General Flynn in just the ten week period from election day in 2016 to Inauguration Day in 2017. According to theWall Street Journal the requesters included everyone from VP Biden, to Chief of Denis McDonough, to CIA Director John Brennan, to UN Ambassador Samantha Power, to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, to several other people in the Treasury Department, and many others. Could it be possible that Obama's political operatives, who went on this unmasking blitz against General Flynn in this short time window, confined their unmasking NSA activities only to Flynn and only to this brief ten - week window ?




The answer is "NO !" Congressional officials have already confirmed that there was a massive spike between 2014 and 2016 in the number of names Obama officials asked to be unmasked, including dozens involving Trump campaign and transition officials. Though Samantha Power's UN job did not have regular intelligence gathering responsibilities, her name was invoked as the authority for unmasking HUNDREDS of American names in 2016. Let me re-emphasise that's HUNDREDS of unmasking requests from Power alone, even though her job at the UN would not have called for her to be involved in any such activity ?!
