Sweden has about 10.1 million people.

19/10.1 = 1.88 deaths per million per day

45/10.1 = 4.45 deaths per million per day

88/10.1 = 8.72 deaths per million per day

(1.88 + 4.45 + 8.72) / 3 = 5.02 deaths per million per day, for the last three days.

Within the last week, Sweden has had a day with 147 deaths, and a day with 5 deaths.

But here's what you missed. Above them are France, Italy, Belgium, Spain and the UK.

What the article writers did for this OP was to use a PER DAY statistic, and average it for the most recent 7 days.

The other countries have used social distancing and economic shut-downs to prevent the spread. Sweden foolishly ASSUMED humans could develop immunity (something which was NOT ASSURED,) and counted on it. They also made the rather callous decision that the weak and old are expendable for the greater good.

So now, the other countries are having better results and reducing their high death rates, and Sweden is still seeing lots of deaths. Oh, but they saved a lot of money. That's all fine and well if you are one of the strong survivors. But if you happen to be in the at-risk category, well, hope you already had a nice life.

That approach is not being heralded as 'smarter.' It is merely a decision which favors wealth over life.

So the question has to be asked at some point:

I, like most of America, agree with the philosophy of a shut down, and make no mistake, it is a shut down, not a lock down. Italy had a lock down. Nobody was even allowed outside. Arrested on the street. We had a shut-down. Keeping workers safe by not forcing them into close proximity in order to reduce transmission.

There is a difference, but it escapes the selfish protestors who falsely call it a 'lock-down.'
