Science, Math, and the Trump Cult

There is an old adage that if you start with a false premise, you can prove anything. These appear to be words to live by for the Trump Cult. Just in the last week we've seen on these boards a complete rejection of science, math, logic, and incontrovertible facts in service of Dear Leader. The primary false premise, recited again this morning by the idiot in the White House, is that 'Democrats' want people to die so Trump will look bad. And 'Democrats' are ANYONE that speaks in contradiction of the false premise. This is what they appear to believe:

* Covid doesn't cause anyone to die who wasn't already going to die anyway. Contradicted by the death toll in New York City, but those numbers are apparently 'fake news' to the cultists.
* You can't transmit the disease if you don't have symptoms. This one is apparently intended to support ending the lockdown, because a cult member can spot anyone who might be infected because, you know, there is no such thing as asymptomatic transmission. Contradicted by all the science.
* The transmission rate doesn't matter. Therefore opening things up is fine. Again this one is contradicted by the rules of mathematics.
* The history of the Spanish Flu is being rewritten. This one is bizarre, but appears to be intended to convince themselves that there were no social distancing measures and no closed businesses during the Spanish Flu outbreak. It is contradicted by..... EVERY HISTORIAN IN THE WORLD.
* The models are all wrong. Another bizarre argument. Apparently all Trump cultists love models.... until they hate them. Models look at known data and make projections. For whatever reason, the IMHE model has now doubled their death toll projection, most likely because the cult is
* 98% of all cases are mild. This argument is made in support of opening up. It is, of course, completely false. The fact is that hospitalization rates are running around 15%, and the mortality rate in the US stands at over 5%. Once again, the argument has zero basis in fact.
* Birx and Fauci are part of the 'deep state' and should not be believed, unless, you know, they say something that Trump likes. This is yet another rejection of experience, expertise, and intelligence.

Bottom line, Trump cultists are ignorant, arrogant, loud and stupid. They reject science, math, and reality. I can't wait for November so they can be put in their place.
