    Hey...

We had another dip in the number of Active Cases yesterday.

Have we finally reached the big peak?

    Time will tell.

Previously when this happened, we later found out it was only a glitch. Just a teaser.

Maybe some reporting got held up. And then after those figures are released, the overall number of Active Cases shoots back up again.

What we would really like to see would be the curve do a gradual bend towards leveling off. We want to see the curve starting to flatten out.

You know, like it began to do before we foolishly decided the danger was all gone and opened back up too soon?

The curve was just beginning to level off. We were 'flattening the curve.'

When I look at that Worldometer/coronavirus page, it amazes me to watch new cases drop in places where the idiot govt. finally instituted masks and social distancing policies. While meanwhile, in states with other idiot governors who DON'T, the new cases are horrendous.

In the UK- of which I am an avid political observer- they have ' changed the way to count virus deaths ' in order to bring down the shocking total. I kid you not.

The way around that is to compare death rates to previous years where there was no pandemic.

They can play games and claim this person or that already had a condition, so it wasn't really the virus that killed them? And we know that's BS. If the virus accelerates the deaths in fragile lives then it is the virus doing that.

In fairness, the old way of counting coronavirus deaths in England (the other three countries used different methods) was to count anyone who died of anything if s/he had ever been diagnosed as having corvid19 - so that someone who recovered from it three months ago and was run over by a bus yesterday still counted. They have three ways now, of which the one to go for is that which counts all deaths in which corvid is mentioned in the death certificate. That lot take longer to be tote up.

People who are familiar with the scientific method, obviously not the science deniers, knows that it's all about data collection and assessment. A rough count is just that, a rough count; something used to get a grasp of the problem. Refining that data takes time as you pointed out. The US may not have an accurate body count from this pandemic for 5-10 years just like it took several years to assess how many Americans we lost in Vietnam. Some of those Vietnam deaths came years after the war ended because it took that long for their wounds to kill them.

Police and prosecutors use a similar method for assault and murder cases. Shoot, stab or beat a person who lives and it's assault. If they die two years later from their wounds, it's murder.

The case count in both France and, especially Spain, is rising as they relax restrictions.

Not a doctor, but my understanding is that without a cure or vaccine, the best any government can do is minimize the damage until a cure or vaccine can be found. The problem in the US is that we didn't even try for several months and now it appears out of control.

Yep. Some states did pretty well, but without a consistent national response, this is what we ended up with. Our patchwork, piecemeal approach plus our horrible health care system are also to blame.

According to Deplorables I have spoken to, masks are for sheeple, they are not medically effective, and requirements to wear them are an assault on our cherished freedumbs

The numbers will hinge on the choices we make.

Wear a mask, stay at home as much as possible, socially distance, if sick isolate 14 days. Numbers will go way down. That simple.

If we behave like Trump, they will rise forever.

None must have any well paying office jobs, because they all require reduced staffing at 50% max, social distancing and wearing masks at all times.
If you sit on the front porch next to I95 and the closest town is 50 miles away, and the only reason to get out of bed is to walk to the rusty mailbox
by the highway to get your welfare check, I suppose you can go without a mask.
