If Trump hadn't lost the election, would the US look like India right now?

I don't think there was any way Trump would have suddenly begun to act for the good of America. He had his chance to focus on the pandemic in the months following the election but he instead chose to think only of himself and forward The Big Lie.

Actually, we were proportionally worse than India under Trump, so it's a good thing he did lose.

We just have too many people in this country who think freedom means the freedom to decide if you want to help protect your fellow Americans.

That just can't work in a pandemic which has forced us all to depend on one another more than we normally do.

It appears to be even worse than we believed, both in the U.S. and across the world.

"A new study estimates that the number of people who have died of COVID-19 in the U.S. is more than 900,000, a number 57% higher than official figures.

"Worldwide, the study's authors say, the COVID-19 death count is nearing 7 million, more than double the reported number of 3.24 million.

"The analysis comes from researchers at the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, who looked at excess mortality from March 2020 through May 3, 2021, compared it with what would be expected in a typical nonpandemic year, then adjusted those figures to account for a handful of other pandemic-related factors."

    No big surprise at all.

    It makes total sense.

Just look at overall deaths, compare to pre COVID years and do the math.

This hasn't been talked about much, but we all know it's out there. We all know there are deaths where the deceased never went to the hospital, never got recorded as a COVID death. The verified numbers have got to be an undercount.

What better way to estimate a true count than to compare the number of deaths to normal years and look at the difference?

Here's the big picture, the current graph of verified Active Cases in the USA:

    Attachment 19848

We had a peak in late January.

Then we began ramped up vaccinations of the most vulnerable and older Americans.

That began a nice sharp decline.

Then we had a lot of governors rushing to drop precautions and open back up. That resulted in more transmissions, a flattening of the curve, halting the decline. We've still got 9000 people in serious or critical condition right now.

Finally, as vaccinations have become more widespread and opened up to younger adults, the curve has begun to fall again. Very slightly. We need to finish the job. We need more people vaccinated.

Clearly the whole reason the curve is falling at all is because of vaccinations.

It is also clear that if more people got vaccinated, the curve would drop faster.

    So what's the problem?

Anti-government anti-vax propaganda of the Republican Party, that's what. We need to get past that.

This graph clearly shows how effective the vaccination program has been.

We can clearly surmise that the curve would be dropping faster if more people got vaccinated. That conclusion is staring us right in the face.

Too bad so many people are so misinformed. Vaccine reluctance is stalling our recovery.

We are paying a huge price, in lives, for the foolish reluctance.

It is time for all those people who have been waiting to see what happens to go ahead and join the rest of America in creating our own recovery.

If you want the rest of the economy to come back, GET VACCINATED!

Do your part as an American.

This is what you can do for your country.

    The time is now.

    Those vaccines have expiration dates.

We are not going to let them go to waste.

If you don't go and get your vaccine, our government is going to give it away to the really needy people in other nations like India.

If you want to have a great July 4th this year, and celebrate America, give yourself a reason to celebrate. Be a part of the American effort to save America. Our forefathers took great risks to create this country. They answered a calling to do something great to make great America. Now it is your turn. THIS.

THIS is how you make America great.

    GET VACCINATED.

This is not to say that anti-vaxers cannot be found on the Democratic side. They are there. Many traditional anti-vax people are Democrats. There is a sad growing number of people who are overly concerned about vaccine side effects. There's lots of propaganda out there. People get swept up with it.

This is not the time for that. We need to get as many people vaccinated as possible. And we can do it. I heard of one person who was anti-vax normally, but recognized that this threat is too great for that so they went ahead and got the coronavirus vaccine.

    That's what everyone should do.

    Get the vaccine.
