Hatred can be found on both sides. I attribute the LW hatred to immaturity - an immature reaction to the hatred of the RW.
There are good people and bad people on both sides. Mature ones and also very immature ones. Immature people think two wrongs make a right. So if the RW embodies and expresses hatred toward the left, then that triggers the immature ones on the left.

I completely disagree with making excuses for one's own behavior. "I did XXX because he's an asshole!" Bullshit. People are responsible for themselves. Too bad our culture doesn't emphasize that people who can't live honorably have a duty to their family to remove themselves from the gene pool.
Human beings are 99.9% identical, regardless of beliefs, culture, skin tone or any other superficial difference. Their behavior and abilities fall within a specific range. Therefore, to a certain extent, they are predictable. There are no magical or God-given differences between Left and Right, Democrat or Republican. It's a choice, albeit based on the knowledge of certain variables, the choices of others are predictable.
