I think it's condescending to say the state of blacks in America. We shouldn't be that balkanized. Black people are just people like anyone else they don't need a black community they need to be part of the larger community and as long as they're the blacks they're not. So they are going to feel alienated and they're not going to participate.

There's a difference between what should be and what is. The truth is humans are tribal and always self-segregate based on race. So as long as we're a multiracial society, we'll always be balkanized. That says 608,755 were arrested for marijuana possession. It doesn't say they were incarcerated. None of them were imprisoned for possession per se.

In 2012, only 1% of federal inmates were locked up for drug possession, and most of those convictions had aggravating circumstances (e.g. they were pleaded down from more serious crimes).
