I went to the ER. It was fully staffed. Service was incredible. No wait, was registered, had vitals, blood work, Dr and nurse interviews, x ray and an EKG within 15 minutes, CT scan 20 minutes later, diagnosis and antibiotics all inside 2 hours, sent home with scripts.

My life is anything but hard right now and I speak for a very large number of Americans.

Like tens of millions of other healthcare workers I’ve been placed on furlough. The vast majority of us ‘heroes’ are watching the COVID War from the sidelines. We can only take a bleach spray bottle and rag to the elevators before management steps and says ‘we can’t afford to pay you to do that kind of work’.

How is Day #2 in everyone else’s world? I’m going to run some errands.

Normal. I have not been furloughed. Still working my normal 40+ hour week.

Biggest problem is getting certain grocery items. All the bulk bins at my usual store have been emptied. Looking for big containers of chicken broth today. Wiped out. I can find them, but I have to go to multiple stores to do so.

The ER has to be staffed—for reasons that should be obvious to most thinking people. Medical/surgical units, not so much. So there’s a hundred or so empty beds. Radiology people can fight over whatever work is in the ER. The Rad techs I work with are working every other week. The word for that is under-employment. They would be better off being furloughed so they can have a months paid vacation on behalf of the government.

Let’s see. Anesthesia department. With all elective surgeries stopped the 18 of them can scrap for the handful of declared emergencies. Good luck making that student loan payment on 16 hours a week.

Surgery department. Pretty much a ghost town. It’s been whittled down to a skeleton crew. We run 12 OR’s under normal circumstances and now we [well, they] run two of them—for part of a morning. Oh, the multi-million dollar Robot is gathering dust in the robot room. With luck they have it paid off. House keepers, ancillary help, cafeteria workers...you get the idea, maybe.

I like to live bait for catfish. In fact, I may give up on the bass soon.

A couple of buddies tried the Bay last week. They fished from the shore in a spot you can get (to small to keep) Rock, white perch and cats. They didn't get anything.

It was cold and windy so they didn't stay too long, either. :0)

If there’s a north east wind this time of year fish will usually shut down. Here, anyway. You fish brackish water? Cold/chilly nights will knock the bass down here. But the rest of the time they are feeding up before the spawn.

Cats don’t seem to give a crap lol. Usually if you can find them and have some fresh bait you can catch them. Here, anyway.

Most of my fishing has been in freshwater reservoirs. Sometimes I'll hit a pond or a river. I've tried that spot at the Bay and my buddies know I don't like it. They do't even bother to ask me because they know I'll say no. :0)

When I'm bass fishing I usually set up a second rod with a worm for cats or whatever. I haven't been going as much as I used to.
