So we're going to normalize wearing masks. But is there a downside?

I was at the bank today and all the tellers wore masks. And the door was locked , sign said limit 2 customers, ring bell to get in. My teller complained about her mask the whole time, lol.

Imagine the havoc that criminals and flash mobs can cause if this becomes the new normal

Most people don’t wear them properly lol.

A week or so ago we hit 85° here and I saw this dude running his weed whacker outside with an N-95 mask. If I walk down the hall in one I fell like I’m going to suffocate.

They’d pretty much have to force me to wear a mask in public. The biggest threat from the virus is from contact [door handles etc] and airborne droplets. It’s actually takes a considerable number of the viruses to get in your system to start an infection.

You’re not going to get it out cutting weeds or from being outside or even around other people if you’re ‘out of sneeze range’.

My bank teller was forced to wear one. She bitched about it the whole time, especially about it causing her glasses to fog.

When I go into a hospital, no one hands me a mask. It would have been SOP for all hospital visitors, for the last 50 years, if they were effective in that way.

Well, I’d consider wearing one if I was going to be sitting in front of people all day.

Walking into Wally World, no lol. If you’re not used to wearing one it’s uncomfortable. Instinctively, you want to remove anything from your face that’s blocking air passage. And if you wear glasses, it should make them fog up if it’s on properly. In surgery there’s a mask designed for glasses that has a little plastic strip that seals off the exhaled air from getting around eyewear.

Yes, I would wear one if I was around coughing people all day. But it still can enter thru the eyes, as you know. People should not have a false sense of security that a mask provides full protection.

Have you seen the homemade paper towel masks? What do you think about them?

You are a danger to America.

Masks are NOT mandatory. You should only wear one if you think you are infected. That has always been the case. It's not a new or revolutionary idea.

It is illegal to wear clothing which covers the entire face, or covered up to the point where only the eyes are uncovered, or renders the face unrecognisable, on public transport and in buildings and associated yards of educational institutions, governmental institutions and healthcare institutions.

    Um...

They say paper towels have a similar porosity to the medial masks.

But they’re massively porous relative to viruses.

Viruses are smaller even than bacteria. Even bacteria can get a viral infection. There’s a class of viruses called bacteriophage or ‘phage virus’ that infect bacteria and mess with their genomes. In fact, they should get busy and figure out some way to make cancer cells susceptible to viral infections by targeting them with a genetically engineered virus that can only pair with a cancer cell genome.

At any rate, the idea behind a simple mask is to catch airborne droplets. Viruses could drive their little tractor trailers through the gaping holes in most fabrics.

That would really suck if you had a cute teller.

Yesterday the wife and I went to the supermarket and put masks on before we got out of the car. I commented that it was like we were going to rob the place.
