Doesn't really matter. That mindset is perfectly capable of putting words in your mouth.

You describe an optimal situation where everyone in a society has all their basic needs met and they say: "That's Socialism!" (As if there is something wrong with that...)

The thing to do is use the word, own the word, show the value of it, continue to remove the pox from the word. The groundwork has all been laid down by Bernie.

Yes, the original Social Democrats wanted Socialism, but then after seeing what a failure it was, they started advocating for a mix of Capitalism and Socialism. Social Democracy became a system with both a free market and generous welfare programs.

OK, I still see it differently.

Everyone who wishes to pray should be free to pray.

And people who do not wish to pray should be free to not pray.

And if these two groups wish to respect one another's positions, then the ones who choose not to pray should not disparage the ones who choose to pray.

And the ones who choose to pray should not disparage the ones who choose not to pray. If they wish to respect one another, of course.

So it gets into dicey waters when members of the two separate groups attempt to discuss the merits of praying.

But Let's try it. You seem respectful and determined to explain why praying is the best idea.

Are you willing to listen to my logic of why there can be a perfectly wonderful life without it?

There is a sort of higher power available for atheists. It's really available for everybody. It has nothing to do with God. It is a higher mental power which is actually found in each of us, if we learn how to tap into it. It is the subconscious. Here is a way to use it, without prayer: Say, you have a difficult problem which appears to have no solution. And this thing has been bugging you because you think there might be a solution, but you can't come up with it.

You can let your subconscious solve that problem for you if you just stop trying so hard. Forget about it! Do something else. Sleep on it. Forget all about it and occupy your mind with something completely different. And wait. This power usually happens very slowly. It may take days or even weeks. And one day, often upon waking, you will have the answer. And you think it's amazing. It's the perfect answer. Why didn't you think of it before? It doesn't matter. It is the power of your subconscious.

Some would call that praying. I don't. It has nothing to do with an overseer/creator entity. It's just the way the human mind works.

I didn't get that from wikipedia you presumptuous dunce. It was a definition. You cannot maintain a free market under a Socialist Governance. There is nothing "generous" about turning citizens into dependent wards of the State.

You're the perfect example of how badly our liberal educational establishment has failed us.

When people get really really hungry, suddenly that daily 12 pack of Bud Light isn't as important, 2 packs of cigarettes a day, or that new Dodge Charger, empty of gas in the driveway, is not that important anymore, or that house with 4 bathrooms, is not that necessary, or 1000 channels of re-run movies on cable TV are not all that worth it anymore.

Trust me, people are going to have to cut back- just about everyone!

Many sacrifices will be made. The real estate market is going to tank, and repossessed Dodge Chargers will be a dime a dozen.

I hope I'm wrong, but I've seen this coming for a while! And it's not pretty!

Sad... I am not even sure how many ppl are out of work, as it keeps going up & the food banks are swamped..

Here they are doing ok, lots of food coming in, but they have lots of help, lots more than normal but no one knows how long they can or will hold up or how long stores & others can continue to help them....

As I watched the news the other day I was torn with angst.

One story was about the food banks and the desperation of so many freshly laid off and lacking because they were on such a shoestring budget with no reserve.

Another story was about the farmers who normally produce for restaurants, dumping milk, destroying eggs, etc.

    How mixed up is that?

These food supply chains are not connected. Grocery stores struggling to keep fresh stuff on the shelves, as the entirely different restaurant supply food chain suddenly has no demand.

It occurs to me that the thing to do is try to find a way to get the fresh food once destined for restaurants to the food banks for handing out to those suddenly with no income.

    It's easier said than done.
