It's true more boomers support DT than don't, but it's really just over half.

I don't think it's very accurate to call it the norm.

But we don't have a purely capitalist system. For us, it never was an argument between capitalism or socialism, one or the other. Anti-socialists have been successful at redefining that discussion to be one vs the other. No. That's wrong thinking. Our economic system has been a hybrid combination of both.

Our challenge is to decide how much of each to have in our mixture.

To be honest, even if we had more socialism, it is hard to imagine we would have, a year ago, placed much importance on being prepared for a pandemic. In reality, if we had managed to inject more socialism into our government, conservatives would make sure it is underfunded and thus unable to stockpile the extra resources needed to take on a pandemic like this. How many States are going to maintain a capacity for millions to apply for unemployment? They are not going to waste those resources under ordinary circumstances unless they think they are going to really need them.

We obviously need to ratchet this up in our priorities. More government regulations to ensure we are better prepared. Conservatives are not going to like that. But we have to do it. It will fall upon liberals to ensure that happens. If conservatives want to call that socialist then that's their bag.

Um, I don't think the amount of praying has changed a whole lot. There does appear to be a trend away from organized religion, but a lot of people are simply taking their own beliefs into their own hands. Some choose not to believe at all. That is their free choice.

There is a perfectly rewarding and satisfying life without prayer. I would not disparage anyone who chooses to pray, but I must point out that there are plenty of happy, good, and contributing members of society who do not. I'm quite pleased that we enjoy the freedom to decide for ourselves if that is for us. Making that a personal choice is ideal.

Well I don't think we should have Marxism either. I just see Capitalism as being about as bad as Marxism. I think our system should be Social Democracy.

This crisis wouldn't have been nearly as bad if we had universal health care and a system that didn't allow Trump to fire the Pandemic Response team. That happened because we have a Capitalist system that puts profits over people. Which also made it possible for a dipshit like Trump to become president in the first place.

I think we really envision just about the same thing and we are using different labels. Democratic Socialism sounds good to me.

The ideal response would be like they did in Europe. People didn't lose their jobs. Government came in and picked up the payroll. Companies stay in business, workers stay employed, keep their health care. They are going to be able to turn their economy back on like a light switch. We are not going to be able to do that with all this unemployment.

I think the "Democratic Socialism" label scares off a lot of people who actually do agree with these policies. That's why I use the term Social Democracy. It's more accurate, anyway.

I don't think that really matters. It's the S-word. That's all that matters to those people.

It's called having a mental block. A strong superstition not grounded in fact that they just cannot move beyond.

People with closed minds have been conditioned that socialism is always bad, nothing good about it. They won't even listen to details. They already have a picture of what it means, it's a strong picture in their mind, you can't change it, doesn't matter what you say. You can't tell them we really already have Democratic Socialism, that it is a part of America, that it is responsible for raising the lifestyle of millions of Americans, the same level of lifestyle they attribute solely to capitalism.

The closed-minded minds think you have to choose between capitalism and socialism.

It's wrong thinking, but you can't tell them that.

And the weird thing is they live in a society, they depend on that society, they socialize with their friends, and as they do they disparage socialism. Go figure.

That's why we shouldn't use the S word. Yes, it's stupid, but people are easily brainwashed.

You really don't know what the hell you are talking about. Socialism is a failed ideology that relies on Government central planning and interference. It doesn't work. Idiots who advocate it lack intelligence or any historical education.

Social democracy, political ideology that originally advocated a peaceful evolutionary transition of society from capitalism to socialism using established political processes.
