    Coronavirus Threatens Rural Hospitals

Well before the COVID-19 threat, rural health care's profitability had collapsed nationwide due to a combination of narrowing Medicare reimbursements, a larger share of patients lacking high-paying private insurance and the hollowing out of rural America. Given such pressures, more than 120 rural hospitals have been forced to close over the past decade.

Those hospitals in small-town America that have survived rely heavily on moneymakers such as elective surgeries, physical therapy and lab tests to make their razor-thin margins work. But, according to the Chicago-based Chartis Center for Rural Health, almost half of them still operate in the red.

I have driven through some very rural parts of Pennsylvania. Are there any states which do not have rural areas?

Yes. A subsistence farmer can only eat his own crops. I am a modern civilized person who buys from many sources. I could care less if one particular area goes through crop failure.

None of us know the time of our deaths, nor the time of someone else's death. You may well be dead now, while Guno may live for 50 more years.

NO. There are no states that do not have rural areas.

New Jersey where I live has rural areas. New York has rural areas.

But there is no fucking way that anyone from New York or New Jersey or Pennsylvania should be talking shit like: "You bastards won't stay home, you spread your disease all over the place. Then you blame Trump for allowing you to. Keep your scum in your cities, we don't want you or your disease out here in rural America."

If that doesn't make sense to you...fine.

"You bastards?" I live in suburban Seattle. Frank, take a paper map, or look at Pennsylvania on Google Earth.
