Default Unemployment numbers to skyrocket; Jobless claims expercted in the millions this week

"Goldman Sachs economists predicted Thursday night in a research note that as many as 2.25 million Americans could file claims for unemployment benefits this week. This would by far be a record, as the previous high was about 695,000 on Oct. 2, 1982."

My GF just got the "axe" at the hospital she's an administrative assistant at. Everyone under her was "axed" a week and a half ago, as were all non-essential workers. All scheduled office visits and non-life threatening surgeries were cancelled. They say they are supplied and ready if the virus comes to our community, despite the limited staff (that may change (staff called back to work) if the virus comes to our community).
Common sense is not a gift, it's a punishment because you have to deal with everyone who doesn't have it.

Sorry to hear that about your GF, RB.

VA called me and canceled my April 10th appt.. Crazy.

We can't keep our economy shut down fro much longer. Many Americans are willing to take the risk and brave the consequences of reopening. I hope the tide of public opinion changes soon or we won't have a tax base left to fund the gov't.

No big deal, we've been planning for it, we're prepared (but not over-prepared).

Most local hospitals here have cancelled non-emergency appts. and concentrated their efforts on caring for any cases of this virus.

No, it will be disastrous to keep things shut down too long, and Trump knows this. Most Americans are willing to do what is asked of them to thwart this virus, even if it means staying home for a few weeks.
With the drop in unemployment and more Americans working before this Chinese Virus, the the tax revenue should be up for this last federal and state tax season.
But I agree, we can't stay shut down too long...or we might be screwed for a while.

Sorry to hear about the GF, RB. Are you working?

My wife is working from home. She took a company computer and set up an office on the ping pong table in the basement. Working just fine.

They've closed down the golf courses...so my two day a week gig that furnishes a bit of spending money is gone.

I hope this thing winds down soon...but I do worry about a precipitous re-start. I suspect it is going to be a damned if you do/damned if you don't situation.

Seems like a goddam nightmare movie!

No biggie, we were expecting it. No, I retired last year.

Yeah, I've never seen anything like this. There aren't any cases in my, or surrounding counties so far (knocking on wood as I type with one finger!).
I just hope this goes away soon for the benefit of our country. The longer it goes, the harder it will be to recover.

All of our elective stuff has been cancelled.

I worked 3-11 last night and we did two appendectomies. The rest of the time we watched YouTube videos on intubations lol.

This won’t last long. They’re going to start sending people home any day now. With my seniority and the fact I work an off shift I should be good though.

Trump is right: if this thing doesn’t show itself soon they need to consider at least a partial lift.

    Dang VA.

I feel terrible for small restaurant/bar owners and their employees.

On a positive note, the market is up 1500 today.

"Commie," pretty funny, the "big chiwawa" shows his age, and thinking, haven't heard "commie" since the turn of the Century, how much you want to bet "the big chiwawa" was a card carrying Bircher back in the day?
