Default Fauci throws cold water on Trump's declaration that malaria drug a 'game changer'

A day after President Donald Trump declared an anti-malaria drug a “game changer” in the fight against the novel coronavirus, the nation’s top infectious disease expert downplayed any role it might play in the fast-moving pandemic and said signs of the drug’s promise were purely “anecdotal.”

Fauci’s statements at a White House briefing Friday amounted to clinical cold water thrown on the president’s repeated upbeat assessments on the U.S. fight against the virus, also known as COVID-19.

Unsurprising. If anything, this crisis has highlighted the fact Trump says one thing and then his staff spend the next few days saying "....what the President meant to say was...."

Trump did say "might be". I heard him say that up front.

    Fauci put it in context.

Because Trump is never wrong, eh? LOL

Yes, Trump likes to qualify things, but he also makes shit up like claiming he knew it would be a pandemic when he was calling it a hoax by the Democrats.

The Australians beg to differ, why the fuck shouldn't it be tried? It's safe enough, all the contra-indications are well known as it's been around since the 1940s. Quinine, derived from the bark of the Chinchona tree has been known about since the 16th century! Anyway you miserable bastards if it doesn't then you've got something else to get Trump with?

A malaria pill from the 1940s has caught the eyes of doctors, analysts, and even Elon Musk as a potential coronavirus treatment

I'm a physician. Its not totally anecdotal. They have done a 45 patient study in France with controls. It looks VERY promising. YES a larger patient study needs to be done but it's not just anecdotal. Its also interesting that in countries where Malaria is prevalent and hydroxychloroquine is used for prophylaxis the amount of Coronavirus infections are low. Now that is anecdotal.

    .
There's a big row going on about hydroxychloroquine. With some people like Guano, it's almost as if they would prefer that a cure for the coronavirus should never be found rather than it be announced from the lips of President Trump. Pity they can't seem to come up with a cure for Trump Derangement Syndrome. It has been used for many decades for malaria, arthritis and lupus and is therefore safe.

Off label prescribing is already done w/ hydroxychloroquine. That WAS A CONTROLLED STUDY not just "anecdotals"

At least Dr. Fauci is not a Trump lackey, but after this pandemic, it wouldn't surprise me if Trump decides to replace him, because of this reason.

Let's hope that this pans out. Quinine-based drugs (as you know) can cause some very serious side effects. Now watch for a big run on tonic water and ppl chugging it down like water. lol

Did you look up the drug, jackass? I checked it out in the PDR seconds after it was announced. Below are the patients who likely or won't be able to take it. Or will have to be closely monitored. (Will these people have to be hospitalized while taking it? No additional strain on the system there).

How many Americans do you think in the aggregate suffer from these 'conditions'? Each condition has its own level of concern or danger. How about adding up just the alcoholics in the country.

Oh well, at least we'll have a whole new dataset for next time.

    OBVIOUSLY pregnant women.
    Patients with renal disease.
    Patients with kidney disease.
    ALCOHOLICS
    Patients with myopathy, neurological disorders
    DIABETES MELLITUS
    SEIZURE disorders

    Finally, these were grouped together...

Bradycardia, cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac disease, coronary artery disease, females, geriatric, heart failure, hypertension, hypocalcemia, hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia, long QT syndrome, malnutrition, myocardial infarction, QT prolongation, thyroid disease

Hydroxychloroquine prolongs the QT interval. Use hydroxychloroquine with caution in patients with cardiac disease or other conditions that may increase the risk of QT prolongation including cardiac arrhythmias, congenital long QT syndrome, heart failure, bradycardia, myocardial infarction, hypertension, coronary artery disease, hypomagnesemia, hypokalemia, hypocalcemia, or in patients receiving medications known to prolong the QT interval or cause electrolyte imbalances. Females, geriatric patients, patients with diabetes, thyroid disease, malnutrition, liver impairment, or those who drink alcohol to excess may also be at increased risk for QT prolongation. Chronic toxicity should be considered when conduction disorders (bundle-branch block, AV block) or biventricular hypertrophy are diagnosed. If cardiotoxicity is suspected, prompt discontinuation of hydroxychloroquine may prevent life-threatening cardiac complications.

Yeah.....there is no such law as the "Right to Try" and the FDA (part of the deep state) is god? You have to love it when fascist leftists LIKE YOU....begin to take the side of evil and propagate the lie that nothing can be done about this fake virus while defending the Chicoms over the American People.

This is why Mr. Trump is allowing this fake event to play out...….its exposing the leftists as the corrupt players they are to the American Voters. Why interfere with an enemy that is defeating themselves?

“A MAJORITY OF AMERICANS now approve of the way President Donald Trump is handling the coronavirus pandemic.

A poll released Friday by ABC News and Ipsos found that 55% of Americans approve of the way Trump is handling the response to the COVID-19 outbreak in the United States. This is a 12-point increase from a poll taken on March 11-12 that found that 43% of Americans approved of his management.”
