How does the case fatality rate (CFR) of COVID-19 compare to other virus outbreaks and diseases?
Once again, we should stress what we discussed above. One has to understand the measurement challenges and the definitions to interpret estimates of the CFR for COVID-19, particularly those relating to an ongoing outbreak.
As comparisons, the table shows the case fatality rates for other disease outbreaks. The CFR of SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV were high: 10% and 34%, respectively.48
The US seasonal flu has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1% – much lower than the current CFR for COVID-19.

Abortion rights dogma can obscure human reason & harden the human heart so much that the same person who feels
empathy for animal suffering can lack compassion for unborn children who experience lethal violence and excruciating
pain in abortion.
Unborn animals are protected in their nesting places, humans are not. To abort something is to end something
which has begun. To abort life is to end it.

No doubt. We're a sugar-addicted nation. Over consumption of sugar leads to heart and circulatory issues, diabetes,
hypertension, etc. Then all the drugs given to these patients lead to further compromise their immune systems making it
difficult to fight off infections and diseases. It's a vicious circle.

Obesity is definitely a problem in the U.S. and other industrialized countries. As you pointed out, it can lead to a host of comorbidities. That being said, especially for us over-60s, a bit of extra "fluff" is a good thing. It gives us the reserve to fight infections especially those that attack the lungs. When you are struggling to get enough O2 but can't, your body will begin to cannibalize your fat and then muscle in order to survive. Example: In 1994 I got an influenza-like illness that put me flat on my back for 10 days with temps as high as 105F. Ended up in the hospital with pneumonia. I weighed 95 lbs when I came out; looked like a survivor of Auschwitz. Had started out at 115. I was saved by my relative youthfulness and general good health. Many of we older folks don't have those luxuries now.

Hello Darth,
He was called racist not for cutting flights from China but for trying to call the disease by a term which included the word 'China.'
The fact is that it is not possible to prevent a world wide pandemic from entering our country by cutting immigration. We cannot isolate our country in a world economy. North Korea tried that. It hasn't worked out well for their economy.
