Default Cheering for Bernie in the bigger picture

Like it or not, the socialists are here. The only way to change that is to crush their ideas at the ballot box and thereby convince Democrats it’s in their interest to expel them from mainstream American political discourse. If we let the movement fester, there is no guarantee the next face of the socialist left will be a septuagenarian with a history of celebrating murderous dictators or that they will be making their appeals against the headwinds of economic plenty. Let’s gird for that fight now rather than postponing it for another day when conditions may be less favorable.

There is, of course, a risk here: We could lose. But if we can’t make the case against socialism in such a favorable environment, shame on us. In that case, the music was doomed to stop soon anyway. But more likely, we’ll see one of the most unpopular men in modern politics win in a landslide — and then people will know it was his ideas that carried the day, and those of his opponent will return to the dustbin of history.

    Excellent piece from the Federalist.

I’ve thought a similar thing myself: this country needs to get socialism out of its system. One of way for that to happen would be for Bernie to win—and then get roundly defeated after one term after voters get a taste of $8/gallon gasoline and etc.

The better way is put forth by the OP writer: crush him in November and force the Democrat Party back toward the center.

Good article and worth the read.

There is little risk that Bernie could beat anyone other than the corrupt hacks in his own party. Should he win the DNC nomination despite the desperation from them to prevent that from happening, he will NEVER sit in the White House as anything but a guest.

You can walk that to the bank.

I'm not a Democrat. And the Democrats are fearful for the same reason the Republicans are fearful. Both parties are full of selfish rich Capitalists who know that Bernie can win.

Are you at all familiar with the oil and gas industry? You like the idea of becoming re-dependent on OPEC? Notice how stable gasoline prices have been? That’s only one aspect of Bernie’s agenda.

So we get some free shit, but at what price?

Here’s a clue: Bernie Sanders is a *very selfish* individual.

Note that he’s already a millionaire. As such, he’s insulated from his own policies. President Bernie would live in the lap of luxury while the rest of us eat Ramen Noodles so we can keep the heat on.

Count me as a Gen Xer who "stresses" about socialism and talking to friends/acquaintances I'm not the only one. Call it the naivete of youth that millennials don't know better. They get frustrated with crony capitalism and see socialism as acceptable change.

85% of Americans do not stress about socialism, and the 15% who do already vote for Trump.

If Bernies becomes President, he is going to have to deal with a Senate and House of Dems and Pubs who are financed by capitalists.

    Think!
