Default CONGRATS AMERICA! Only took 200 years to pass an ANTI-LYNCHING BILL!

In the recesses of my middle-aged brain I knew this. But I had forgotten. 200 bills have been submitted over however many years. They finally passed the final today. Gee, aren't we proud?

It was not until 2018 that the Senate would pass (unanimously) anti-lynching legislation, the Justice for Victims of Lynching Act. On February 26, 2020, the House of Representatives passed the Emmett Till Antilynching Act, a revised version of the Justice for Victims of Lynching Act, by a vote of 410-4.

Bet TRE45ON will veto it -- assuming the Turtle lets it get to the Senate.

    Saved.

You will be proven wrong, Mujer de Buho.

The turtle was slow but he beat the rabbit to the conviction line in the Senate.

    Right?

Actually lynching is already (rightfully) illegal under federal law. Amash was one of four who voted against it and argued this type of legislation ultimately has big unintended consequences in how crime is handled at the state and federal level. Hard to vote against good sounding legislation but devil is always in the details about the effect it has.

So it only took till 2018?

I'm not being glib, I wonder if the 2018 was the FIRST FED law saying "you can't do that anymore".

PS Frankly, detail wise, EMMETT wasn't lynched was he? Didn't they kill the kid and then weight his body with a turbine propeller and throw him in a river? (Maybe they strung him up before) His mother had an open casket so the world would see what they did to her kid...

IDIOT! CLASSIFIED as a lynching? 1981 (the year REAGAN was sworn in). Alabama (big surprise). At least one of 4 killers was KKK. The ONLY KKK MEMBER to have been INDICTED in the20TH CENTURY for lynching. Anyone remember when LYNCHING became 'public sport'?

If you were lucky, your family member sent you a postcard once the NEGRO was strung up in the tree.

So we passed a law for something that hasn't happened since 1981?

Kudos. You really are doing the Lord's work.

You bet they were. DIXIECRATS. And we lost them in the 50's. The GOP owns them now!

Ironically, we just lost, dare I say, OUR last one just last week. 101. Stayed a Democrat but in unguarded moments he had the old language and the old attitudes. We made an 'exception' for ol Herbie. He was 81 when I first met him. Nice man but you couldn't beat the 'southern' out of him with a hammer!

Aren't you embarrassed to go back that far? It is an illustration that there really isn't a problem today. Now if you can post me something like this that happened this year, maybe I would be inclined to support it.

Hell there have been more FAKE racial attacks than actual racial attacks against negroes

    Jussie Smollett anyone?

And, evidently the Bama admin didn't think to do this.
Abortion rights dogma can obscure human reason & harden the human heart so much that the same person who feels
empathy for animal suffering can lack compassion for unborn children who experience lethal violence and excruciating
    pain in abortion.

Unborn animals are protected in their nesting places, humans are not. To abort something is to end something
which has begun. To abort life is to end it.

The 1980's. Oddly enough, all took place in New York City.

The last one in any Southern State was 1981 in Alabama. One of those convicted was executed, two served life terms, and a fourth died before his trial was completed.

I thought we already had laws against murdering people?
