Although the military does have specifications for it's cartridges and firearms, the general public can easily buy a firearm (a hunting rifle!!) that exceeds any military foot soldier's rifle or sidearm. That's a fact. I own several (along with a few military issued weapons).

Each one is designed for it's purpose, or may serve several purposes.

All are protected by the 2nd amendment.
