Mass shootings are becoming as American as apple pie, and the solution from the right is, we need more guns
And the solution from the left is more feel good laws that don't do anything about root causes.

Here, again, and I'll even simplify it for you, pay attention, there are three variables to every mass shooting; the shooter, the target, and the weapon.

We can never determine who the next shooter will be, and we can play defense with potential targets, trying to protect them as best we can, but there are way too many to anticipate. However, the one variable we can control is that which makes it all possible, the gun, called regulating access.

Now that wasn't that difficult was it
Which won't do a thing about the shooters' motivations and will just make them choose other means, like arson, driving a truck into a crowd, bombs, poison gas. There's a plethora of ways to kill people en masse. And many of them are deadlier than guns. But you're obsessed with guns, so nothing else matters.

Yet much of our violent crime and homicide is limited to a few dozen counties. Outside of those areas, we're about as safe as Canada and most Western European countries.

Last time I'm repeating the obvious
You mean regulating access as during Prohibition and as with illegal drugs. Yeah, that's always worked well.

IOW, you admit that the existing laws don't work, so your solution is more laws that won't work. A textbook example of Insanity.

We already regulate access quite a lot. We have background checks, and most states have psychological background checks as well. We also federally limit many types of weapons to requiring a heavily regulated FFL.

If you truly want to improve safety, it's not about passing more laws. It's about fixing gaps in enforcement. One of the biggest ones is that many states don't properly report crimes to the FBI. The FBI database used in criminal background checks needs to be as accurate as possible in order to be effective.

That depends on if said "will" is constitutional. For many years, it was the will of the majority to segregate people by race, for example. Thankfully, the "will" of those majorities in certain states was eventually overruled by the courts.

The majority of people in DC probably approved of the handgun ban that used to be in place. The popularity of said ban didn't matter, however, when it faced constitutional scrutiny, and it was therefore ended by the courts.
