    Default Leftist Couch

It's the Casual Leftist on JPP trying to create a left wing space for discussion. And whats more casual than a couch conversation? Lets have a hang out. Lets hash things out.

What as a leftist do you think about the future of the 2nd progressive movement? What problems should we pay more attention to? Lets talk it out w/o right wing know-nothings interfering in the conversation.

If they show up, just ignore them. Or inform me how to ban them post creation of the thread.

Who watched the debate? I only watched the 2nd half, but I thought Klobechar did alright - better than I expected.

Bernie did great but seemed just a little off. He was on message. I like that Steyer repeated his message about climate change and inequality.

Buttigeg had some good lines, but thats all I can say. He and Warren IMO are fading in popularity.

And Bloomberg, he did better than last week. He didn't come off so terribly when the others weren't dunking on him at every chance.

What is the 2nd progressive movement? I googled and I got this: https://washingtonmonthly.com/magazi...ot-to-blow-it/

And there are plenty of problems to discuss.

(BTW, I am drunk so it might take a while for me to discuss anything.)

You are just going to attract right-wing trolling if you don't ban a lot of them from the start. You just have to add whatever names you want on the lower part of the discussion creation page before you post it. I would ban the following. CFM, Volsrock, USfreedom911, Teflon Don, Bigdog, Arminius, Postmodernprophet, Text Drivers Are Killers, Bobb, Top, RB 60, Grokmaster, Tinfoil, Earl, Havana Moon, Truth Detector, Wolverine, Flanders, Dachshynddawg.

I'm glad you asked! I'm surprised there's anything written about it. I'm sure you're familiar with the First Progressive movement (1880-1920) it was an era marked by the rejection of the previous Industrial Era. It was a rejection of unchecked industrial power, massive wealth inequality, environmental destruction and government corruption by expanding voting rights, labor rights and under Teddy trust busting, national parks and consumer protection laws. Now over 100 years later we are see many of the same problems. We have climate change, we have mass wealth inequality (Buffet and Bezos are no diff from Rockefeller and Carnegie), we have a corrupt marriage of power and money in Washington, labor rights are under threat with the new gig and under-employment schemes and even voting rights are under threat with voter purges and gerrymandering. What proceeds the 2nd Progressive movement was an industrial revolution of sorts with the tech industry, especially in the internet. We have many of the same problems of the past. The solution is inside us, it's not foreign socialism - it's OUR HISTORY.

And there are plenty of problems to discuss.
What's the weirdest issue that people aren't thinking about that you know of?

The debaters were a little more desperate today because the election in SC comes Saturday and Super Tues comes 3 days later. They have to score now to keep getting donations. It is near the end for some of them. the billionaires do not care. They know they can continue until they get bored. Klobuchar will be gone. Biden needs a victory because donations are down. For them, and maybe Warren, they need a good result.
It would be ironic if it distilled down to Bernie and 2 billionaires.

I can see it whittled down to Bernie and Bloomberg.

Not much you can do. No one really is able to or will force companies to hire workers rather than use automation. Many types of workers just aren't needed. They need people to use computers, run machines as well as fix the mechanics of said machines.
