I can hardly believe that Thompson is "dictating energy policy" just by speaking out about the issue. When I googled this the articles that came were from 2016 to 2018, Theresa May was PM then and apparently she supported fracking.

You're criticizing Warren and Sanders for saying they want to ban fracking but wanting ain't getting. They would have to work through regulatory powers and a lot of legal challenges. Or they could try to get Congress to pass new laws on fracking. Also, fracking regulations could be reversed by a future president who supports it.

I'm puzzled that you're so critical of Sanders and Warren for only talking about a ban yet are still supportive of BoJo, who actually did it.
There is a huge difference, we don't have a huge fracking industry like the US, it is still very much in its infancy. BoJo's first priority was to get Brexit done and didn't want anything to get in the way. Sanders and Warren could ban fracking on Federal lands overnight, currently over one quarter of fracked oil comes from that source, that's a huge amount and would have profound immediate effects.

As for the fracking ban it's merely a moratorium it will start again soon enough. It is just sheer lunacy to leave such a valuable asset in the ground. Sadly there are way too many ignorant scientifically illiterate people over here and the likes of Emma Thompson and Vivien Westwood do influence them.

Again, talk is cheap and Sanders or Warren couldn't ban fracking that easily. Do you recall how all of trump's Muslim bans immediately ran into legal challenges? No, they weren't about fracking but about the power a president has to call for an immediate ban on something and not be challenged.

"If a future president really wants to ban hydraulic fracturing, it seems likely they will need legislation to do it. Given the implications for jobs, tax revenues and fuel costs, such legislation would not face an easy ride through Congress. The bottom line is that when Sanders and Warren talk about banning fracking, they are best understood as describing their aspirations, rather than predicting the future."

I live in an area of fracking. I've seen all the Range Resources TV ads trying to sugar-coat it. But people have voices, too, and they have a right to be concerned about health and safety issues, like water and air quality. We already have to live with trump's decision to reduce environmental regulations that protect people but may affect the bottom line.

    Here's a pro/con article on fracking. https://www.yaleclimateconnections.o...-5-key-issues/
