How this piece of human deserve a medal of freedom is beyond me?!!
(CNN) This week lawmakers in Iowa are debating whether a teacher can say "Pete Buttigieg is gay" in the classroom without first notifying parents.
I wish I were kidding but I am not.
The bill, which was introduced by 13 Republicans and advanced to the full House Education Committee on Monday, would require that lessons touching on the topic of sexual orientation or gender identity first be approved by parents, who would then have the option of sending a note to the principal excusing their children from class.
Rep. Sandy Salmon, R-Janesville, one of the bill's sponsors, reportedly was not clear whether mentioning in, say, a government class that Buttigieg has a husband would require permission (it "might," she said).

It's okay for your children to be gunned down in school. But gawd forbid they hear about anyone having a same-sex spouse.

What gives the school system the right to decide what a child can be exposed to? Once upon a time parents explained the facts of life to their children. It's not the schools responsibility to expose children to things such as sex, sexual orientation, gender identification, Santa or the Easter bunny without a parents permission. Many things such as these are against many peoples religious beliefs and as such should be sacrosanct.
Take Pete Buttigieg for example why the need to bring up his sexual orientation? He is one of many running for president and the last time I checked school children weren't allowed to vote!

gay people exists
should the school have to ask if they can tell the children that handicapped humans existing?
should they have to ask before they speak of Koalas existing?
just because a parent doesn't want to have their children know about things that exist doesn't give them the right to destroy other kids education
they should homeschool their kids and then they can have the right to make their kids education a fake world without facts
Eagle-Eye is correct with the inference that American parenting (or the failure of it) is the reason for failing schools.

Nope. The wealthy wanted to profit off education. The first step was to ruin the reputation of public schools and teachers. They hammered away at them for decades and slashed spending over and over. When schools are supported by property taxes, it is not difficult to see which schools would thrive. The inner-city people are not stupid. They know that the system is designed to deal them out.
Charter schools were the plan all along. The fact is they achieve the same results and often lesser results than comparable public schools and many in poor neighborhoods. But the propaganda works and America will have for-profit schools when they are done with us. Charter schools are making tons of money, especially for administrators and owners.

I am sure a lot of that is true, Nordberg, but until parents from in the inner cities to remote wild lands get involved with their children's education, the terrible problems will continue.
Charter schools mean nothing if parents are not involved.

No excuse exists for parents not being involved in their children's education.
