These people are taught by their parents and communities. Racism didn't start with radio. it's been in existence since we were brought here as slaves. Racism is taught in schools, churches, work place and every other part of society. We may have changed by no longer drinking out of different waterfaucets, but this country was built on racism, without it would be a different country.

Yes. From what I've seen of my own children and their friends, they are not at all fearful or shy of other kids who look "different." They have to be taught to hate. Unfortunately some parents and communities teach that lesson all too well. Several ppl here received it in their bottles as infants, apparently.

Almost as bad is the passive apartheid that comes from where someone grows up, lives, or works. An example is Mr. Owl, who grew up in rural Illinois and doesn't recall ever seeing a non-white person other than on TV until he was in his teens. His ideas about non-whites were stereotypical based on news, media, popular programming, where he went to university, and where he eventually started his career. He believed the stereotypes that Asians and Indians (from India) were highly-intelligent, African-Americans were not so bright. For a while he also believed that women weren't very talented in the IT/engineering world. Then he got enlightened as he 1) received women IT co-workers and bosses, and 2) met my family and work friends, some of whom have advanced degrees in nursing and engineering. I would say that he was an illustration of what you are pointing out -- racism, even the passive kind that he was afflicted with, is pervasive in our culture.
