Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Trump promise he would eliminate the national debt in eight years? And wasn't fiscal conservatism, balanced budgets, concerns over deficits and debt, suppose to be major principles of conservatism?

Weren't we told that the Tax Cut and Jobs Act would pay for itself, and grow the economy four to six percent annually? That discretionary spending would decrease, and lessen burdensome deficits?

And all this is occuring during a good economy, Obama faced a historical recessions but even his budget never climbed above a trillion a year after 2012.

In other words, Trump is the epitome of the exact opposite of what fiscal conservatism is suppose to represent, yet, nothing from the right, they crucified Obama yet nothing today, guess conservative values depend upon who resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue

Obama's deficits shrunk because the Republican Congress fought him. Remember when we were the "Party of No" for not supporting all the spending measures Obama wanted?

But you're not wrong that there is zero excuse/reason for having a deficit this high at this point in the economic cycle. None. Congressional Republicans will fight for more fiscal discipline when there is a Democrat in the White House (Clinton, Obama) but not a Republican (Bush, Trump).

We have a trillion dollar deficit because no one will touch spending. No one will touch entitlements and we have a massive increase in military spending.

NO ONE knows how this is going to break: NO ONE.

Decent economy, some improvement in wages, lowest UE in like forever, good for minorities, yet another $Trillion deficit, and very low interest (what happens when banks can't make money on loans), yet of corporate government personal debt it is the citizenry with the lowest debt ratio of the three.

    NO ONE knows.

I thought Trump said he was going to pay off the Debt and balance the Budget?

Pretty sure the Tax Cuts will solve everything.

Yes, apparently, he’s too fixated on his wall promise that he isn’t able to do anything else.

That "party of no" is the party in charge now and the discretionary spending is increasing since Obama left office

Plus a unnecessary tax cut that has done anything but pay for itself

Did you read my second paragraph? I'm not letting Republicans off the hook.

You don't like the tax cut but that's not why we have the deficit we do.

And no one in office cares right now. It's the worst of all world's. Pelosi got the spending she wanted in the House. Republicans got the military spending in the Senate and Trump's dumb *ss signed the spending bill. Everybody "wins".
