It is incredulous that Republicans are using this.

OK, if this is the argument, then it is assumed that President Trump did abuse his power, and that the dispute has instead become one of whether or not that is acceptable or impeachable.

Not an argument one would want to be making.

Do Republicans really want to argue that, even though Trump exceeded his authority, that it wasn't that bad?

OK, so he compromised our security position and illegally withheld designated military aid and tried to bribe the guy into announcing a bogus investigation so it would negatively impact Biden's public polling going into the 2020 election. That's not so bad, right? I mean Republicans would be fine if a Democrat did this to a Republican, right? They would easily accept it if the tables were completely reversed, right?

Um, no. I don't think so.

The term 'high crimes and misdemeanors' is a catch-all term for violating the oath of office in a way that is hurtful to the nation. Rigging elections is hurtful to the nation. Bringing foreign help into our elections hurts the nation. Compromising our security position anywhere in the world hurts the nation.

Republicans can play word games all they like. Democrats know right from wrong. Something Republicans seem to be struggling with, lately.
