When TV first began it was believed that presenting the news was not going to be profitable.

The FCC made news programming a requirement as a public service.

Only after they became slicker did they figure out how to make the news profitable. That was when the news expanded into, at first, a half hour show. Later it became an hour. Decades later saw the advent of 24 hour news.

Presenting the news had become profitable.

And after the news became profitable bias was introduced for the purpose of tayloring the news to fit and appeal to certain audiences.

When Nixon faced impeachment the news was pretty much the same on all the channels.

Would you let your teenagers ride around in a car with a case of beer having a 'booze cruise' because, as the children reasoned: "All the other kids are doing it!'?

That has never been an acceptable reason for doing something that is wrong.

Let's try another example.

You're riding down a country road. No civilization in sight. You come around a curve and see several cars pulled off the road. An armored car has wrecked. The driver and guard are injured and unconscious. Several people are scooping up money which has been spilled out all over, and running back to their cars. What do you do?

Is it OK to ignore the stricken victims of the crash, grab some money and get the heck outta there?

Everybody else is doing it.

That should make it OK, right?

Well, no, it doesn't.

Never has, never will.

I don't care how boring this case may be. It is news. It is important. It should be covered by the news media.

Unless they are only in it for the money.
