Default DC sues Trump inaugural committee, alleging abuse of funds

WASHINGTON (AP) — The District of Columbia is suing President Donald Trump’s inaugural committee and two companies that control the Trump International Hotel in the nation’s capital, accusing them of throwing parties for the Trump family with nonprofit funds, and overpaying for event space at the hotel.

The district’s attorney general, Karl Racine, said the inaugural committee had been “blatantly and unlawfully abusing nonprofit funds to enrich the Trump family.” The lawsuit, announced Wednesday, alleges that the committee abused nonprofit funds and coordinated with the Trump family to “grossly overpay for event space” in the hotel.

It was the latest allegation that Trump and his family have used public and nonprofit funds spent at Trump-owned properties to enrich themselves — part of the peril of Trump not fully withdrawing from his businesses while he is president. Trump has maintained ownership but turned the reins over to his adult sons, who have bristled at the charge that they are profiting off their father’s presidency.

The suit alleges the committee coordinated with the hotel’s management and members of Trump’s family to arrange the events and that committee staffers knew they were paying prices that were “grossly above market rate” but didn’t consider less expensive alternatives.

    Dear Red-State Trump Voter,
Let’s face it, guys: We’re done.

It is a tragedy that so much of the work that so many men and women toiled at for so long to make this a better country, and a better world, has been thrown away, leaving us all in such needless peril.

This is why our separation in all but name is necessary.

Criming is their forte! They’ve always been able to cheat in the past because of lax white collar law enforcement. It’s a damn shame there are two sets of rules in this country white collar and blue collar.

You got that right. We go to jail for bad checks; TRE45ON stiffs the entire nation and gets away with it.

"“Do we love law enforcement or what?” President Donald Trump asked a cheering crowd during his “Make America Great Again” political rally Oct. 12 in Lebanon, Ohio.

"“Thank you, law enforcement!” the president later told officers, who he called “heroes.”

"But when Lebanon City Hall sent Trump’s campaign a $16,191 invoice for police and other public safety costs associated with his event, Trump didn’t respond. Trump’s campaign likewise ignored Lebanon officials’ follow-up reminders to cover the sum — one rich enough to fund the entire police force for nearly two days in this modest city of 21,000, between Dayton and Cincinnati.

    "The bill remains unpaid."

"The red ink Trump poured on Lebanon’s thin blue line is no anomaly.

"At least nine other city governments — from Mesa, Arizona, to Erie, Pennsylvania — are still waiting for Trump to pay public safety-related invoices they’ve sent his presidential campaign committee in connection with his political rallies, according to interviews with local officials and municipal records obtained by the Center for Public Integrity.

"Some invoices are three years old. In all, city governments say Trump’s campaign owes them at least $841,219."

So suspicion now exists he made a buck off of his own inauguration, we know he rakes in millions in profit with his golf junkets to Trump resorts, he scams Veterans charities, and using funds from his own Foundation for personal use, but the right wants America to think that Trump is now supposedly so concerned with corruption

That's some great MAGA right there. I hope his followers try to emulate his example and quit paying their bills.

In his mind there's no reason to do so; there are no consequences. He certainly wouldn't direct them to be paid out of a sense of honor or integrity.

If they voted for him they deserve it. Gee, maybe those places could have found better uses for those funds.

No doubt about that. Lebanon City is a small place (pop. 20K). As of October, TRE45ON's campaign owed American cities $1.7 MILLION in unpaid fees.

But he cares about the little guy, he LUVS Murica.
