I'd say he achieved his goal, well half of it, anyway. Blacks have proven they are equal (sometimes better) and can be very successful in all fields (and not just on them).
When a poor little black girl can work at it and become the richest woman in the US and most other countries as well, I'd say there's equal opportunity now.
Good post. We HAVE come a long, long way since his death. But we still have a long way to go. It's not a time to rest on our laurels and proclaim "Mission accomplished."
