I cannot recall my father, step mother, aunt, grandmother, cousin ever using that word or any other four letter word. They simply are not neccessary to communicate effectively. And that word is not necessary in advertising, professional environments, or in the presence of children

My parent's example seemed to rub off on me.

In the pantheon of four letter words damn is not that horrible. Still, it is not a word I see used in any measurable way in professional settings, meetings, interviews, and we do not expect little kids to use it. If we expect little kids to not use it, I attempt to have the self discipline to try to refrain from using it myself. What does it say to little kids if the standard is they cannot use it, but I can? It really is not a word that adds anything of value everyday speech, writing or prose.

Children shouldn't watch TV if this is an issue. That word is everywhere as it's not even on the list of words that can't be on public television. It's been that way for years. Most sitcoms will have it. Comedy cartoons have it and even stuff on HGTV and plenty of food competition shows have had it. Quite frankly it's hardly a thing. The word is so widely used it's just common banter that you'll hear all over. It's not like they used the f word.
