In his inaugural address, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said he will file an executive order this week restoring the voting rights of many convicted felons who are currently disenfranchised under state law.

“My faith teaches me to treat others with dignity and respect,” the new Democratic governor told his audience outside the state Capitol. “My faith also teachers forgiveness.”

“That’s why on Thursday I will sign an executive order restoring voting rights to over a hundred thousand men and women who have done wrong in the past but are doing right now. They deserve to participate in our great democracy,” Beshear said.

The speech offered no details about Beshear’s forthcoming order, which felons would be covered or how the restoration process would work.

What really needs to be done here is to redefine the word "felony" At present it is "any crime for which you could have gotten a year or more in prison." Obviously that includes many many minor crimes.

You just contradicted yourself. They have made a number of non-violent crimes felonies over the years. Even for the smallest of crimes, you can lose your rights for life. You can go 30 years without even a parking ticket, hold a good job and still not regain your rights.

So, in other words, it's a felony if you call someone who is a drug dealer, even if it's not drug related, and if the calls are on the dealer's phone records, you can be arrested and it is then up to you to prove you are innocent!

Defending yourself and having to prove your innocence aren't the same thing. If what you had to do was prove your innocence, those accusing you wouldn't have to provide any evidence just make a claim. There's a reason the prosecution/plaintiff goes first in presenting their case.
